I caught a golden stag, rainbow stag, giraffe stag, and cyclomattus stag in ~1 hr

I’m so proud of myself I just had to share. Last time I shared about missing the golden stag (though I did end up catching a giraffe stag and Goliath beetle).

This time I decided I was gonna do the Nook Miles Island thing and try to catch some rare stags. I only had about an hour (not including set up time) so I doubted I would get anything, but I ended up catching pretty much all of the rare beetles in one sitting, including some repeats! I’m so happy 🥹

Here’s how I did it: chopped down all non palm trees and cleared stumps, picked up weeds and flowers, broke rocks, and planted about 4 extra palm trees I brought with me. I also dropped all the items on the rocks to prevent wharf roaches from spawning.

I planted all the palms on the right side beach for easy access and just ran back and forth scaring away any unwanted bugs still spawning. Mosquitoes are the most annoying as you have to catch them (can’t scare them off).

Happy stag hunting everyone!

Just missed 2 scorpions + golden stag

I’m shit at catching bugs. Just now not one but TWO scorpions spawned on my island, and it was my first time seeing a scorpion ever in this game. Of course I got stung by both of them and missed.

Then the golden stag spawned randomly and I missed that one too…

The only saving grace is that I at least caught a giraffe stag and a Goliath beetle.😭

How to deal with 6yo who has issues with wiping

I have a 6yo girl who has been potty trained since she was 25mo old. However, she only started wiping herself independently at around age 4.5 or so (her arms were too short to reach before that).

When she was little, sometimes if she didn’t wipe properly and didn’t get us or a teacher to help her, sometimes she would have pee remaining and her privates would get a bit red/irritated. So I tried to teach her to wipe properly so she doesn’t get that area irritated or infected.

I don’t know if I gave her anxiety about it or something but since she’s been wiping independently, she wipes for really long periods of time and uses a ton of toilet paper. Like enough to clog the toilet. And she’ll wipe for sometimes 10min after a pee. After a bath she dries off for sometimes 10-20min with the towel.

I have explained clear parameters to her.. 6 squares of toilet paper folded per wipe, 3 wipes max and then you’re done. But she refuses to listen. This morning she clogged the toilet again.

Anyone deal with this before?

ETA - thanks for all the helpful replies! Just to clarify, this is a pee issue only, as we still do poo wipes for her at home (and she seems to do fine with poo wipes at school). It’s something to do with pee specifically, and the anxiety around feeling moisture/pee remaining and not being fully dry (even though she is for sure dry because she would’ve been wiping for 10min+. For this reason also, baby wipes won’t work because the moisture is the problem, not a lack of cleanliness.

Extremely inaccurate Libre 3 CGM

36 F, 5’6, 120 lbs, was given a CGM by my prediabetes RN. She helped me install it. It’s a Libre 3 and the second CGM I’ve tried—the first was a Libre 2 that I purchased and installed myself.

While I had no issues with accuracy with the first one, this current CGM seems wildly inaccurate. I began to have suspicions when the first 24hrs passed and it still thought I was constantly having low glucose levels, like 80% of my time was spent with low glucose.

So I got some more test strips and did some finger prick tests to verify, and sure enough, it was sometimes higher by about 2.5-2.6 mmol/l. So I thought, ok I’ll just add 2.6 to all my CGM readings. WRONG. I learned after doing more finger pricks that the variation changes, from being off by ~1 to ~3 to sometimes being almost the same. When I went to the gym it got so low it basically fell off the radar.

Anyone experience this? Do I just disregard the CGM at this point? Should I remove it as there’s really no point anymore? Though it is still transmitting data to the clinic, but my follow up isn’t till next week.

Debating between two out-of-school care options

Hello, I'm looking to get some advice on this. My 6-year-old, who is in kindergarten right now, has been accepted at two out-of-school care options. Both are on-site at the school location. One option is continuing at the one that she has already been attending for a year, and the other is the 2nd option which she was waitlisted on but now has been accepted into for the next school year.

I'm a little torn between these two choices.

Status quo:

Pros -

  • She will have her bestie, who also got the offer but parents are choosing to stay.
  • Program remains on-site without doing a lot of field trips.
  • Plenty of outdoor time at the playground, and a bit more time to "be bored".
  • We already know and love the staff. They've taken good care of her.
  • No need to switch programs again at Grade 3—this one goes all the way through elementary.
  • Younger brother will have sibling priority and get to be with her in Option 1 throughout elementary school.

Cons -

  • Breakfast is not provided in before-school care; afternoon snack is a little light. My kid is always a bit hungry at pick up time and I always have to bring a snack.
  • Many of her other close friends are either moving to Option 2 or already there.
  • No coverage during winter and spring breaks.
  • No access to school gym during rainy weather (they mostly stay inside when it's rianing but would lack a space to run around.)

Switching to Option 2:

Pros -

  • Many of her other friends are in this program or switching over, but not her bestie.
  • Breakfast is provided in before-school care—this is extremely helpful as getting her to eat breakfast is a major source of stress in the morning. Both of my kids don't have a large appetite for breakfast.
  • They apparently serve very robust afternoon snacks and the other parents have said their kids are always full at pick up.
  • There is coverage for winter and spring breaks at no additional cost.
  • We get priority access to summer camps offered at this location.
  • Younger brother gets sibling priority and because he will enter kindy at a younger age (November baby), I feel this program may be a better fit for him.
  • Access to the school gym during rainy days.

Cons -

  • Won't have her bestie with her.
  • This program ends after Grade 3 and we would have to switch back into the 1st option after that (e.g. must get on that waitlist again, though apparently it goes much faster at that age.)
  • Despite having sibling priority, due to the Grade 3 cut off, younger bro will only have a year with big sis at this childcare centre. Beyond that, he would be in Option 2 and she would be back at Option 1 (till she graduates elementary school).
  • This may be a pro for some families, but this childcare centre does a lot of off-site field trips. I'm told by other parents that they go to lots of activities, including bowling, indoor playgrounds, swimming etc. that are quite far, by school bus. They also go to closer local parks and playgrounds on foot or via public transit. Some parents like this, but personally I do not. I pay them to take care of my kid and keep her safe while I'm working and I don't really need them to be going off-site all the time and me worrying about where they are/what they're doing. In particular, swimming seems like a very unnecessary thing as I don't typically allow anyone else to take my kids swimming.

A few other things to consider:

  • Not sure if this is really helpful but every parent whose kid goes to this childcare RAVES about it and says their kids LOVE it.
  • Some parents have mentioned that by Grade 3, a lot of the kids are "begging to be taken out of after-school care". Could be the reason why the waitlist is much shorter, as beyond Grade 3 I'm guessing kids don't need as much after-school care?
  • Some other parents have expressed that they like how Option 1 (status quo) has the older kids, but due to the previous point, I'm wondering if these "older kids" would only go up to the same age as the ones at Option 2 anyway.

Sorry this is so long but thanks to anyone reading. Would love to hear any advice from people who have faced similar decisions. Thanks!
