Euronet ATM experience

Before our trip to Portugal, I read up on what ATMs to use (multibanco) and what to avoid (euronet). Despite knowing to avoid them, I ran out of time super early in the morning and just used a euronet atm anyway to get cash instead of wasting time finding a better one and maybe missing a tour.

I declined all conversion offers and accepted the fee and it was… fine? There was no hidden scam or I’m missing it still? My bank reimburses all ATM fees anyway and looking at my bank statements everything looks normal. I did it again later in the trip with the same result:

Aug 6, €150 cash: -$178.75 (atm total charge) +$5.71 (refund)
Aug 13, €150 cash: -$179.00 (atm total charge) +$5.72 (refund)

Is the scam here just not knowing to reject currency conversion? If so, every credit card transaction here runs the same game by asking multiple times if I want to do things in euros and if I’m sure I don’t want conversion.

1984 miyata 610

This has been my daily driver for 10+ years but never quite right for how I use it. It’s a 57 frame which is a little small but I could swap a taller quill stem. I ride smooth and rough roads and dirt, I’ve put conti 32 tires on the original 27.5 rims but I think that’s about as wide as i can get away with. I’ve heard going smaller to 700c could get me wider options, but I might have to redo the brakes at the same time.

Before I start swapping parts on this thing, is there a reason not to? I get the impression online these are decent but still common vintage bikes. Other than tires, chain, bar tape, and brake pads I’ve got all the original parts this bike came with.
