What in the anti-woke agenda is this?
I'm a huge fan of Legally Blonde because, to me, it's a movie that makes activism COOL. It makes caring passionately about a cause cool. It celebrates empathy while making superficiality and elitism look uncool. We need more of this, mostly right now!
I just started episode 1 of Elle, and I'm honestly confused... Why are all the activist teens written as bitter, salty caricatures? It feels like I'm watching the same memes people use to mock Greta Thunberg or young climate activists online.
And if this is supposed to take place in the 90s... why does everyone talk like it's 2026?
This feels like a trend I've noticed in movies and TV lately, where characters doing activism seem to be portrayed as annoying, angry, bitter... As if the audience is supposed to laugh at them?
It feels like we're being nudged toward seeing activism as uncool?? The "blue-haired environmental protester" a caricature of a character whose opinions are dismissed before they're even heard?
Personally, I'd rather see media encourage people to care. I don't care what color someone's hair is if they're fighting for cleaner air or human rights - we should be rooting for these people!
We're living through climate change, wars, and growing instability. At a time like this, I'd rather our stories inspire people to get involved than teach us to roll our eyes at anyone who does.
Does the series get better?
