What in the anti-woke agenda is this?

I'm a huge fan of Legally Blonde because, to me, it's a movie that makes activism COOL. It makes caring passionately about a cause cool. It celebrates empathy while making superficiality and elitism look uncool. We need more of this, mostly right now!

I just started episode 1 of Elle, and I'm honestly confused... Why are all the activist teens written as bitter, salty caricatures? It feels like I'm watching the same memes people use to mock Greta Thunberg or young climate activists online.

And if this is supposed to take place in the 90s... why does everyone talk like it's 2026?

This feels like a trend I've noticed in movies and TV lately, where characters doing activism seem to be portrayed as annoying, angry, bitter... As if the audience is supposed to laugh at them?

It feels like we're being nudged toward seeing activism as uncool?? The "blue-haired environmental protester" a caricature of a character whose opinions are dismissed before they're even heard?

Personally, I'd rather see media encourage people to care. I don't care what color someone's hair is if they're fighting for cleaner air or human rights - we should be rooting for these people!

We're living through climate change, wars, and growing instability. At a time like this, I'd rather our stories inspire people to get involved than teach us to roll our eyes at anyone who does.

Does the series get better?

Eva Woods

I must say June Diane Raphael is absolutely killing it as Eva Woods. She’s one of the most entertaining characters so far, and Raphael plays her with just the right balance of vanity, charm, and self-awareness. She’s very much the polished Bel Air SAHM archetype, but what makes her interesting is that she’s not a mean girl. Which explains why Elle is naturally kind. Eva can be out of touch and image conscious, but she’s genuinely trying to make the most out of their predicament. I also love that she is socially savvy, business astute, and understands the value of networking. Also, she’s hilarious. She seriously makes me laugh so much. Such good casting for the mom!

The key ingredient to enjoy it: treat it as an alternative timeline.

Well, this show is corny, tries too hard with the references to the OG, also tries to romanticize the 90s way too hard, and is lowkey cringey. However, at the same time, it's also enjoyable in the background, is kind, has great music and costume design, and an absolutely adorable lead! So I watched it with no regrets, and I will be watching S2.

However, one thing that bugged me during my watchthrough was thinking the entire time that Elle would never act this way in Harvard if she went through all of that. By that point, she would have known how to connect with different types of people and wouldn't be so (charmingly!) naive. And, more importantly, she would never ever fall for Warner in the first place. Gosh, she is ditching the preppy Hot Josh at 16 already for being "too predictable."

So I've decided to treat it as an alternative timeline! In Legally Blonde, she lived all her life in California and never had serious challenges (the botched nose job by Wyatt just didn't happen). So, all of her character development was put in suspended animation. Whereas in Elle TV series, the botched nose job indeed happened, and she had to go through a character development arc earlier.

No one said “victim blaming” in 1995 who tf signed off on this script

I thought reviewers were being too harsh but yeah I’m starting to agree. This show is Gen Z trying to pretend nineties.

We did not talk like this.

team miles..?

okay miles was messed up for flirting with elle while he was with shannon but i feel like overall dustin kind of screwed over elle more? i mean he wasn’t the nicest when elle first arrived (unlike miles), lied to elle about not investigating principal anderson, and kissed her best friend. i do believe he’s a bit more of a fleshed out character than miles though, which is why people lean towards him. i hope that in season two we get to see more of the consequences of dustin kissing madison, and maybe some more development with miles (maybe something with his dads? idk). i loved the show though and im a sucker for a good love triangle. i might also be a littttle biased because i find miles super cute but trust that’s not a majorrr factor all things considered. 🌝

'Elle' Season 2 will have an episode set in New York City

One scene features Elle, Madison, Liz, and Kimberly going to see Rent, but discover it has moved to a Broadway theater

Another will feature a heart-to-heart between Elle and Eva

The guys in this series are BLAND.

I like Dustin because he seems to have purpose (the school funding miss-allocation) but my god Miles is just not dynamic at all. I hate to say it and I may get a lot of hate, but both actors are not very interesting to watch.

‘Elle’ was renewed for Season 2 back in January and filmed from March to June, before Season 1 premiered Season 2 is set to release next year, the wait won’t be long! 💖

I’m so happy about this! I’m so used to the long wait between seasons that I almost forget the plot sometimes. 🫣 I’m so glad that’s not the case this time.

LOVED IT!

Wow, did I inhale that show fast. I absolutely adored it. I am 1000% the target audience - I'm *exactly* Elle's age (born 1980), desperately miss the 90s, love love love the music/fashion/vibe, and am also a HUGE Legally Blonde fan (watched it 30+ times in my life and even read the original book). I even experienced a fish out of water thing at an Ivy league grad school. Such a fantastic show. Liz even looked alarmingly like my best friend, which increased the nostalgia factor for me. What a gem. Thank you to the creators for this - perfect show :-)

I enjoyed Elle much more when I started seeing it as its own project rather than as a prequel to Legally Blonde.

So the title says it all. Legally Blonde is one of my favorite movies of all time, and because of that I had a hard time with the first episode.
I just couldn't really see this version of Elle as the young Elle from the movie. I also found it impossible to ship young Elle with anyone because I kept thinking, "No, that's not her endgame she belongs with Emmett."
Another thing that bothered me was the character development. It felt weird watching young Elle go through certain lessons when adult Elle seems to have to learn a lot of those same things again in Legally Blonde. It just didn't completely make sense to me.
Once I stopped looking at it as a direct prequel and started treating it as its own project, I actually ended up enjoying it a lot. I love lexie and I thought Lexie gave a great performance, and I really loved the fun '90s vibe.
So I'm curious what everyone else thinks. Did you enjoy it while fully seeing her as young Elle, or did it work better for you once you treated it as its own separate project?

Lexi Minetree is perfect!

I’m on episode 6 and she is just NAILING the Elle from the movies. I also keep seeing flashes of Reese Witherspoon too! That’s it. Just an appreciation post!

I Loved it!

There are a lot of posts that are hating on the new show, but I think its so cute!!

The actress the plays Elle reminds me of Reese's Elle. It's a cute fun show, and I really think the captured the 90s which I loved that they set the show in! When I went to watch it I thought it was going to be set in present time so that was a pleasant surprise!

Excited to keep watching!

The story of Elle TV Series reminds me of Mean Girls, BringItOnAllorNothing and Legally Blonde had a baby.

Am I the only one that can see the resemblance of the story of 2000 movies like Mean Girls(2004)Bring it On All or Nothing (2006) and still thinking about Legally Blonde prequel. It’s a mix of these movies plus a nostalgic feel of the 90’s life with no smart phones.

So far really enjoying it! Just in S1 E2

UPDATE: I just finished it and really loved it! A mix of the breakfast club, and devil wears prada 😅 a whole mix of everything! can’t wait for the next one

Let's talk about Miles

so I'm past episode 5 of the series and Miles is like such an ick like first of all he's emotionally involved/ developed feelings for Elle whilst in a relationship with a baddie, a ten, someone out of his league, Shannon. Then he doesn't tell Elle he's dating someone even though I know as a man he knows she's developing feelings for him. Then he decides to tell Shannon at her mum's MEMORIAL about the kiss so he feels better like Elle told him to shut his mouth. He's so stupid and his reasoning was she looked better now and he felt like a dick coming. Does he get better? I don't think he does truly hope Elle sees past her rose coloured glasses and realises he's a red flag.
