Caffeine & nicotine

I cut out caffeine bc it was making me nervous on my new meds. I’m thinking about cutting out nicotine as well.

Do you consume either of these things on antipsychotics? How much and on what meds?

I feel so much better since cutting caffeine and I’m thinking if I cut nicotine I’ll be golden. I currently am on 6mg zyns, almost a can a day.

Any thoughts/ opinions welcomed.

What do you do for work?

I just changed up my meds and had to call out of work. I NEVER call out of work. This disease is some bs.

Sometimes I doubt I’ll ever graduate and work a 9-5. I may just have to go on disability. Any success or struggle stories? I feel so alone and inadequate.

Any experiences welcomed.

Lindsay Clancy

I apologize if this has already been discussed in this subreddit, but I just discovered the Clancy case.

People with BP are 500 times more likely to have Postpartum psychosis. However, PPP isn’t exclusive to the BP community.

She sought out help and the health care system failed her and her children were victims bc of it. Bc of the 3 times I’ve experienced psychosis, I know that logic and reason are completely gone during an episode. I fear what would have happened during those episodes if I had had children of my own.

Is she a victim of the health care system? Did her husband fail her? Or is she just a murderer?

All thoughts and opinions are welcomed.

What is the most embarrassing thing you’ve posted on social media while manic?

I’ll start… I made a Karen post on Facebook how people shouldn’t walk or bike on northside drive because it’s not safe for the drivers or the pedestrians. You don’t have to shame me I know it’s embarrassing lol. And that’s just what I choose to remember. I’ve done much worse…

Ready, go!

Fiancé kept a secret for 6 months

I got engaged on Friday to my best friend. But I don’t know him as well as I thought I did.

Back story: I had Adderall induced psychosis which led me to get my BP1 diagnosis. They didn’t know where to put me to help me so I went to rehab. I became vehemently against any “mind altering” substance. (Alcohol, stimulants, benzos). I met my fiancé in rehab and we’ve been together and sober for years.

He decided to go back to school in the fall. He mentioned to me casually that he thought Adderall would be beneficial to his education. Bear in mind he’s a recovering addict. I said I would break up with him if he started taking it. I was such a teetotaler I didn’t hear him out.

Flash forward six months today on my family beach trip, 5 days since he proposed. He told me he’s been taking Adderall this entire time. I felt sick. How could he do something behind my back for six months on a life altering medication? And yes I believe medication is “life altering” bc it saved my life.

I feel I need to add that a couple months ago I did consider taking a stimulant myself bc of my ADHD/ BP1 diagnosis. I was on risperidone and thought it could squash any breakthrough mania that might come from a mild stimulant. I was newly on this subreddit and saw others with dual diagnosis taking it and I thought it might be something to look into. I told him when I was considering it and he didn’t tell me he was taking a stimulant himself.

I genuinely don’t know if I’ll be able to marry him at this point.

Any/ all perspectives welcomed. I need insights.

Is Vraylar a strong enough AP?

I’ve been taking risperidone for the past 3 years and I decided it’s time I try something not as sedating, along with other negative side effects. I switched to Vraylar.

I’ve been waking up at 7am with no naps when I used to sleep till 10am and then take a two hour nap. I feel suspiciously… happy. I’m more social. I feel more outgoing and engaging. My mom has noticed these changes and she’s nervous. I haven’t told her I switched meds. She has seen me in psychosis and has trauma from it. I don’t want to put my family or myself through it again.

I heard Vraylar is a “ miracle drug.” But is it strong enough to keep me from getting manic? I see me psych June 30th and I’m going to share my concerns. I guess I’m looking for success stories and experiences.

Also, I do have extra risperidone as needed.

Thank you in advance for any insights!

How are you today?

I just want to hear from y’all and have some conversations. Are you stable right now? Depression/ manic/ mixed? Are you happy, content, sad, numb, energetic, lazy or all of the above/ some other emotion?

I feel grateful to have this subreddit. I’ve advocated with my psych to try new meds and I have found that I am stable and functional, not so lazy and sleepy. Do you love your meds or tolerate them?

Are you married with kids? Single and happy? Planning for a family?

How old are you? How long have you been diagnosed and how long did it take to get stable after that diagnosis?

You can answer all/ none of the questions and just tell me about your day. I look forward to hearing from you.

Zoned out at church

I find when I’m in big groups of people I zone out unless I’m being directly addressed. My cousin asked me if I was okay and it pissed me off. “Yes bitch I’m on some really strong antipsychotics so if I zone out buzz off.” It just made me so mad. And then I got pissed off all over again that I’m having to take all this shit just so I don’t get hospitalized. I’m not stopping my meds but it just made me mad that I couldn’t interact like a normal person. I’m already insecure as it is and when people notice me in that state I get defensive. Anyone else?

What’s your experience with switching antipsychotics?

I’ve been taking risperidone and lamictal for three years consistently. I recently told my psychiatrist about all the side effects and she recommended vraylar. I’m afraid of withdrawal and possible mania. What was your experience? Was it worth going through the process?

Has anyone just accepted defeat in terms of sex drive?

I’m on 2mg of risperidone and 50mg lamictal. I haven’t enjoyed sex in three years. Actually, I hate having sex. If I never had it again I would be content.

My therapist says that it affects my quality of life and I should try other medications. I am very sensitive to medications and easily thrown into psychosis.

Sometimes for my protection and those I love I feel I need to stay on these strong meds and just accept defeat. I may never fully enjoy sex again.

Here’s to a lot of lube and stability.

Thinking of switching anti psychotics

I’m seeing my psychiatrist in one week. I’ve been on risperidone (on and off) for about 5 years. The last two years I’ve been taking it regularly, I’ve been really stable.

However, I am extremely lazy, have zero sex drive, emotionally numb, hate music, sleep 10+ hours plus a nap, hate socializing, and generally unsatisfied with everything in life.

I’m afraid of switching anti psychotics bc the one I’m on is so strong. I’m BD1 with psychotic symptoms and I’ve been hospitalized 5 times in 2021-2022. Also, scared to switch bc of withdrawals.

Is it worth asking my psychiatrist for a new AP? Or should I just accept that this is my life? I know every AP has side effects but the ones on risperidone I just don’t feel I can live with.

Thank you for reading and I look forward to any insights.

I went to my psych a week ago and told her my problems with ADHD and sexual dysfunction. She gave me propranolol for ADHD and Wellbutrin for sex drive.

I’ve been taking the meds for ADHD and haven’t really experienced any changes.

Anyways… I’m terrified of taking Wellbutrin and inducing mania. She said wait a week after starting my ADHD meds so I could see if there are any side effects.

A week has passed and I still haven’t taken the Wellbutrin. I’m on 2mg risperidone and 50mg lamictal. I’m hoping the anti psychotic will put out any bad side effects from the Wellbutrin.

The reason I’m even considering taking Wellbutrin is my non existent sex drive, lack of focus and motivation, and sleeping 10+ hours plus naps. I’m hoping Wellbutrin could help those things.

I’ve started to plan out what to do if it causes mania and psychosis. I’m just afraid I won’t realize I’m in it until I’ve done serious damage.

Is the risk worth the reward? Should I tell my psych my concerns and hold off taking it?

Thank you for reading and I’m looking forward to any insights.
