difficult client

hi! i’m a cosmo student and today was technically my second day working on a real client although i’ve been on the floor since last friday. (monday is theory day, tuesday i worked on a mannequin.) but today i was going to do a perm for the first time and it was on an older lady, unfortunately i did not get to finish the perm because the lady was upset with my pacing (i was slow with it and i had to keep readjusting her hair, the perm rods, and the papers.) and she told me “can you go find someone else to do my hair, i’m getting tired of this” although my teacher had asked her twice if she wants to reschedule for a daytime appointment. anyway, i guess i’m just looking for advice of how to not feel bad about not having the abilities or right pace to do perms yet 😭 i cried at school because of it which was a bit embarrassing. not because of the client herself, but because of being frustrated about my lack of ability to get the perm done and basically driving the client away :( also her son came to pick her up and he was mean to our receptionist and my teacher

update: switching to the salon floor

hello!! as an update to a previous post i made, the day actually went quite well!! i only had one client (lasted for 5 hours which is wild) and she was supposed to be a virgin lightener application but that wasn’t the case because she had used box dye before.. so it was actually a soap cap, a gray root touch up, and a color correction. my teacher apologized for that being my first service because she wanted to give me a big, but simple service LOL 😭😭 (also i got a $5 tip which was cool!!) i’m kind of glad it happened though bc maybe it’ll help calm my nerves on tuesday (it’ll be my second day taking clients) i haven’t done a cut yet so i think i’m still nervous about that lmao. the 2 things i feel i have to personally work on is fully shampooing and wrapping the hair, but otherwise it was fun :) thank you to everyone who replied to the post and said such nice things 🩵

switching to the salon floor

hi!! i’ve been in cosmetology school for about a month and a half now, and i’m finally going onto the salon floor tomorrow. i got my kit and everything yesterday :) but how do i get over the nervousness of messing up a clients hair? i know it’s a school and they understand that we’re learning, but i’m still worried about it 😭 a lot of the girls (who are really nice) have had some previous experience doing hair before they came to the school, so i guess i’m worried that i’ll also look like a fool to them especially if i do mess up
