First Roadtrip in the Trailseeker
(Somehow the only photo I got of the Trailseeker on this trip!)
We just got back from a trip from Santa Maria to Grass Valley, CA with stops in Santa Cruz on the way up and Monterey on the way down.
This was also our first roadtrip with our 5-month-old baby, so big milestones all around!
The way up we stopped and charged at the Tesla Super Charger in King City which is next to a Burger King, then charged overnight at our hotel in Santa Cruz. We happened to be there during the Monterey Car Show and Auction and had multiple car enthusiasts say “cool car!” And even got one from the valet at the hotel 😂
From Santa Cruz to Grass Valley, we stopped at the Tesla Supercharger in Dixon. This one was near a Safeway, so we were able to use the restroom and get refreshments.
We were staying with family in Grass Valley and they aren’t set up with a charger at home so the day before we went home we charged at the Supercharger next to the Raleys.
Drive back we attempted to stop at the Supercharger in Walnut Creek but the charging cord was just too short. We’ve actually run into this a couple of times on some of the older Tesla chargers. Since the charging port is on the front of the car and the front is quite long, the cord just doesn’t reach.
We ended up charging in Alamo which had a super nice Safeway to use the restroom at and get refreshments and give the baby a break from the car seat.
We stayed at the Hyatt in Monterey which has complementary Tesla chargers. They are super slow, so we charged from about 50% to 83% in about 13 hours (said it would be 17 hours to a full charge)
Charged again at the new Tesla Supercharger in Atascadero which is at a new Valley Fresh market, again a great place to use the restroom, get refreshments, and walk the kiddo around.
All around a really lovely trip!
Oh! We did pick up a Yakima roof box in Grass Valley but it’s really hard to say if it impacted range because the way back is mostly downhill. I’ll try to remember to update in the future if I notice a range decrease.
