I work as an RN in aged care. During my shift, the staff member pressed the emergency buzzer four times from four different rooms when there was no apparent emergency. This caused unnecessary interruptions and concern regarding the appropriate use of the emergency call system.

On another occasion, when a resident was deteriorating, the staff member remained in the corner and stated that he was “watching.” I addressed my concerns calmly and professionally and asked him to speak with the manager. I did not raise my voice, threaten, insult, or disrespect him.

The staff member subsequently made a complaint to Fair Work alleging workplace bullying. The matter was considered, and the outcome was in my favour.

Throughout the situation, I remained professional and focused on resident safety, appropriate care, and my responsibilities as an RN.
