Stock trading as an alternative instead of relying on dividends to avoid the 30% tax for people aiming low passive income

Apologies if this has been discussed before

Lately i am seeing lot of folks worried that when they retire early and sell their stocks for the yearly expenses ,capital gains will attract 30% tax irrespective of how small the profit is.

Instead of just selling the long term holding, why don't we build a small corpus of say 100 to 200k over the next 10 to 15 years and use that to short term trading.

Agree not everyone enjoys and can consistently make big profits , however a decent 8 to 10% annual returns should be achievable if we are following equities for a long time.

As stock trading is considered as a business we will be subjected to tax slabs and we can use losses, expenses to offset any profits made, which should add another 0.5 to 1%

Just trying to understand why not many people are considering this, are there any drawbacks with this approach other than the lack of interest/self confidence in doing it

How to cope when your friends leave you out of plans

Edit: This was my first post in this group and I am overwhelmed with the responses. I was feeling a bit lonely being left out , but interacting with you all has improved my mood. below is what i have learnt from all your valuable inputs, I will try to respond to everyone who has commented

  • discussion was in a group chat , so i should have just raised my hand if i wanted to go and don't act like a prince to be given special treatment
  • I should compromise on getting drunk or spending time with friends and making memories, all you need is few drinks (well under limit if done over a period of few hrs) to socialise
  • Dont take yourself seriously and overthink stuff

Edit 2: I left out one bit of info, the person who initiated the plans was tagging people and checking but not me, again it might be an oversight and i should not think too much about, when i see something i should raise my hands

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

38 year old dad here, over the past year i have made some friends and have gone out to the city few times.

They all live in a different suburb and i sometimes don't go to the house parties they plan as it is bit of a drive and I dont want to do it after getting drunk and cannot afford uber.

Today they all made plans to go to the city in a small whats app group which i am part of, but i was not asked even once if i am interested to join.

I feel they will continue to do this as I am the guy who is not available all the time.
