Fun 1991 News Clipping
A friend gave me some of her mother’s old glassware and it’s all wrapped in (high quality, you cannot rip it, I miss the 1990s) newsprint. Here’s a snap from the Sports page of October 13, 1991 - Edmonton Journal

u/bpersaud4321 (I think) started this game day ritual back in April, and a few other users were carrying it on but it looks like we haven’t done one since June 12. I hope BP and Co. don’t mind me starting one up today.
(I am stuck at home with horrible bronchitis during the three sunny days between weeks of rain, I am so bored and baseball doesn’t start for hours, please indulge me.)
Join our gratitude circle, inspired by Kazuma Okamoto's pregame ritual.
Before and during the game, drop something you’re grateful for, baseball-related or not.
Ground Rules for the Circle:
• Keep it positive. This is a no-negativity zone. No player bashing, doom-posting, or hot takes here.
• Respect everyone’s contributions (even if it’s simple).
• One gratitude per comment (you can post more, just keep it clean).
I’ll start: u/agreeable_farm_3714 did me a huge favor by purchasing and mailing some Blue Jays Pride decals, and they arrived yesterday! Now my laptop is a little more gay, and I am grateful.
Now it's your turn:
Anyone know if there are any good Blue Jays dog jerseys out there? This one is on the MLB website but there is no size chart, and it’s a million dollars. Wondering if anyone has seen them at the store at Rogers, or at a Toronto area Winners type store, or has an old one that they’d like to sell? I’m not in Toronto so if there is an IRL one out there I may need some assistance:-) The dog that will wear jerseys in our house is very small (min pin/chi) and tells me he really wants a replacement for his Oilers jersey because when the Oilers announce their coaching decision, we will likely be throwing out our Oilers merch. 🐶 ⚾️ 💕
I got some Crocosmia bulbs on half price today and am wondering if June 4ish is too late to plant them for blooms this year. Zone is 4A or 5. Ground will be very well watered when they go in because we’ve had about ten inches of rain this week. And if it is too late, should I wait until autumn or spring to plant them? And long term, I hear that they’re hardy to zone 5… I’m not opposed to digging them out but has anyone had success with them as perennials below zone 5?
Do you like they/thems, hockey players with an actual personality, finding love after grief and very happy endings? Then I've got a book for you! Introducing: A Way Forward
Genre wise, this is not Romance as most enthusiasts of the genre would think of Romance. It's not nearly as spicy as, say, Heated Rivalry/Game Changers series, which was my own introduction to romance. I like to think that what A Way Forward lacks in spice, it makes up for with strong communication between characters and big little twists. So I would call it romant-ish at best, but mostly contemporary fiction that happens to be a love story starring a queer person.
Here's a synopsis!
Sam Weaver’s life has been turned on its head by the death of their husband. Navigating grief is hard enough, but adding in queerness, mental health and money problems is making it difficult to heal. A friendly neighbor connects Sam with a job, which results in an unexpected connection that could be the best - or the worst - thing for Sam’s heart and future.
Ethan Clarke has worked too hard to risk his heart again. Focused on his professional hockey career and determined to heal after a breakup, he's on a path to repair his faith in others and himself. The last thing he needs is another surprise. Maybe what he really needs is someone who can accept him exactly as he is.
As grief and old wounds linger, outside opinions threaten to complicate everything. Sam and Ethan must decide whether healing means playing it safe - or daring to build something new together.
TW: There is some derogatory language against queer people used very sparingly and in service of the story. There is also a great deal of love and allyship throughout. If you would like a list of page numbers to avoid for language, or for specifics on what language is used, please message the author.
There is one NSFW scene in the book.

Hello! I've just joined this subreddit to learn more about rose growing and care. I was awed by the rose greenhouse at the garden centre this past week, and ended up bringing home four beautiful plants. The greenhouse I purchased them from is reputable, and I trust that they would not sell plants that had a 0% chance of survival in zone 4a (Edmonton, Canada), so I'm confident that with the right care, I can make sure these beauties survive!
The varieties I came home with are:
Raspberry Cupcake
Julia Child
Fragrant Cloud (I've grown Fragrant Cloud before in a much warmer climate, it is a treat!)
Purple Aura
I have been advised to plant these very deep - up to 20 inches down, depending on the position of the graft, and in a sunny location. I have planted the Raspberry Cupcake at this depth, after removing the lower leaves and active blooms. I watered with 10L of water/Root Booster immediately after planting and will keep heavily watered until new growth appears. Unless I get any advice to the contrary, my intention is to do the same with the other three.
I got a little information about winterizing, which won't be a concern for five or six months, but would definitely like to hear from anyone else who has experience with similar tea/tender roses in cold climates. Thank you!
Very new baseball watcher/fan here. I'm trying to figure out why my favorite guy, Davis Schneider*, isn't getting an opportunity to play lately.
(Yes, I saw him flop that one catch a few games ago. Whatever.)
Can someone explain in very basic terms how the lineups work? Like, how do they decide who to play or not to play on a given night? How does injured reserve factor in to that? Is it a bad sign if someone isn't playing but also isn't injured, for multiple games in a row? Feel free to use Blue Jays specific examples because I don't know any other baseball players. :-)
* - favoritism is based almost solely on vibes, I have no point of reference for whether or not he's actually a good player, but how will I if he never gets to play?!?
