My New Porsche 718 Spyder
Took delivery of my new (to me) 718 Spyder last week and this car is incredible! Bought it sight unseen and never drove anything like it before. I couldn’t hold back a dumbass grin on my face when I did my first cold start and drive around the neighborhood. Been driving it everyday since then.
Long story short, a couple months ago I started research to buy a preowned 981 Boxster S. This was a car I wanted to get about 10 years ago, but was too far out of my budget at the time. Then convinced myself I should get a 718 Boxster instead, then a 718 Boxster S, then a 718 Boxster GTS, then a 718 Boxster GTS 4.0, and then ultimately a 718 Spyder. I guess I got carried away telling myself “well it’s only 10-15K more for the next trim level”. Once I made up my mind, I got lucky and a spec popped up that was almost exactly how I would have configured it myself. After a few weeks of negotiating, the dealership shipped it over.
Only have one complaint which is the sound from 1500 to 4000 rpm, even with PSE on. People commonly post about it, but I didn’t think it would be that underwhelming. Below 1500 and over 4000 rpm, the car sounds exactly as it should. A valve controller and OAPs are on the way to hopefully make that right.
Aside from the sound, everything else about it is great. I'm looking forward to Porsche meetups and eventually hitting the track. If anyone has any tips or advice about maintenance and upgrades, please feel free to share. I never thought I’d own a car like this and still can’t believe I own it as my new daily. When I was doing research, I came across a 718 Spyder review on Business Insider that said “This is a car that you dream about after the driving is done, then dream anew when the driving resumes, and before you know it, the driving and dreaming are the same thing.” Pretty spot on.
