"Crowley can't campaign on a moratorium because that's a legislative issue" is a flimsy anti-moratorium argument

It's ridiculous to suddenly pretend that candidates for the executive branch in any election in the country only ever campaign on powers entirely within the executive. One of the biggest things the governor does is set the docket for the session in his or her budget. His or her election serves as a referendum on whether those issues are popular, which then informs his or her negotiations within the legislature.

If you believe that Crowley can't advocate for a moratorium because it's a legislative issue, then you should be consistent and believe he shouldn't campaign on school funding reform, cannabis legalization, housing finance, or anything beyond "here's who I'll appoint to my cabinet and here are some executive orders I'll sign." Which is preposterous!

It's fine to say "I don't think Crowley should advocate for a moratorium" if you think a moratorium is a bad idea. But to suddenly argue that it's now out of bounds for a gubernatorial election is, well, cope, and now that Crowley is the nominee it's popping up everywhere.

Hong campaign starting to fight back on Twitter

I couldn't give less of a shit about old tweets from before Hong was a politician and it seems like most of the attention is coming either from people with a financial interest in keeping progressives down or from national media dorks who don't know anything about Wisconsin, but it's nice to see her push back on the bullshit.

Breakdown of Hong's fundraising and comparative data

"According to Hong, 70% of Barnes’ donations are from out-of-state and nearly half of the donations are out-of-state $1,000+ donors."

"Tiffany has raised ten times Hong’s total and still has fewer donors, fewer donations, and fewer Wisconsin donors than she does."

At a Black forum yesterday, the gubernatorial candidates were asked how many Black people are on staff

Very funny answer from Kelda Roys (& I note that David Crowley didn't mention his campaign staff)

edit: Bunch of white people in the replies are upset. Relax. It's good to bring different kinds of people into a campaign team that's trying to govern a lot of different kinds of people.

Axolotl Cafe's michelada is extraordinary

Best michelada I think I might have had, ever. A lot of places lean too far into tamarind or other sweet flavors, which isn't for me. Mothership's n/a michelada is really good and El Señorial's, in Burnham Park, is (as best I can tell) housemade and quite good, but Axolotl's michelada has completely dominated my imagination since I had it. I'm glad the restaurant appears to have broken free of that cursed location.

Any other michelada heads in the chat?

Since Hong is the only candidate who announced support a data center moratorium in the forum today, here’s her data center policy

From her IG:

Al data centers are a bad deal for Wisconsin. With no local investment and spiking energy costs, data center subsidies are irresponsible.
We're calling for a moratorium on data center construction until we know how to protect ourselves from their environmental and energy costs.
And if a community decides it wants to build a data center, any new construction must follow three rules:
- One, it generates long-term community benefit: no tax breaks for private profit.
- Two, it funds new renewable energy infrastructure and adheres to strict environmental protections.
- Three, that infrastructure is publicly owned - so whatever the long-term outcome of data centers, we build something useful for all Wisconsinites.

We call it CONTROL ALT DELETE:
• CONTROL-ling our
• ALT-ernative energy and
• DELETE-ing corporate subsidies
