Friendly reminder, always (ALWAYS) mount your hood

There is a nice thunderstorm passing over, and I wanted to try and take some pictures from upstairs. Suddenly the wind was getting wild, and the window was getting blown shut.

I hold the window, get the tripod to move it out of the way, and the camera just fell of the tripod. Before I could do anything, it smashed lens-first on the floor. I heard a cracking sound but it was dark (it's 11pm here right now).

Closed the window, turned on the light. Eventhough I was inside, shooting in the dark, I've mounted the hood. And I think that saved my camera, or at least my lens. The hood was halfway on the lens and the part that connects to lens was in 1 pieces.

I don't see any problems with the glass. I tried zooming, focussing, taking some pictures. It all seems to work.

So... even if the sun isn't out or there aren't any lights from the side, just add that hood. It could save your equipment.
