FINALLY I am finished finished with the initial steps for Cheri's revamp! I wanted to make more 'official' seeming media, especially the talk sprite showcase which is in the style of these official seasonal outfit showcases from the devs' Tumblr, and did some fake screenshots while I'm at it. This post is to also celebrate my completion of the first batch of revamped portraits - Cheri's base seasonals, beach and bathhouse portraits, and some extras, like their practice, loungewear, and date outfits.

Cheri's character and lore have undergone several new developments, so I thought that I should reevaluate her gift tastes in the process. Which means also redoing the previous journal template that I've made for her. This was a lot of work — tedious work, because of all the back and forth exporting I had to do — but the end result is very satisfying!

Thank you to everyone who have supported me and left nice comments in this journey. You've all been very motivating, and it fuels my desire to not just keep creating but also sharing what I've made.

After approximately 2 months of work, I’ve finished the first revamped portrait batch for Cheri. This includes their basic seasonal portraits, romanceable character-exclusive portraits (beach and bathhouse), and additional outfits alongside their alt versions! The extra outfits for this batch are:

1. Their iaido training gear, with tied/untied sleeves;
2. Loungewear, with warm and cold weather variants;
3. An alt version of their summer outfit (with kimono off);
4. Shooting Star Festival date outfit, and;
5. The travelling outfit that they wore in the winter before the story starts (which is part of their Lore Portraits™️; more lore to come!).

This has been a massive labor of love and possibly my art debt of the decade, but I'm so so glad that I pulled through and finished this! Now I can move on to the second set of seasonals and even more special portraits, wedding included :))

Finished these two extra outfits recently, which is Cheri's practice gi (which in a theoretical NPC situation, you'd only be able to see her in at 6-7AM every day), plus her Shooting Star Festival date outfit. Normally I design brand new outfits in my regular style first, but I decided to skip that step just this once!

In my opinion, the practice gear is one of the outfits that had the best revamps - not just because of the base change but also because of the clearer rendering on the sword (especially the grip). I've also added some details like how her sword's sash is partially visible in the portrait. Overall, I'm very satisfied by this particular revamp.

Had the honor of completing a seasonal outfit set for a client (spring and winter) so they have a full set of seasonal portraits for their OC, plus a PNGtuber-style portrait with extra animated emotes. I'm always down for more animation practice, what with my work on my own OC's portraits - it's a lot trickier to draw mouth shapes in this style than it seems 😅

With this, Cheri's main seasonals is complete and I can move on to the extras/next seasonal set 😄 This is a tough one, but also my favorite design out of all the main seasonal outfits.

I've been quite busy recently but I finally finished this one! Fall is honestly my least favorite out of the original portrait set — it turned out so much better after redrawing the patterns and simplifying them so they are more readable.

Summer portrait done! This one got a slight update design-wise, but is otherwise still my second favorite design after the winter outfit. The bow in front of the pantswas one of my earliest attempts at drawing one, and many, MANY bows later, I'm glad I improved in that department 😆
