PSA for entry-level beer league players

Cross-posted from r/hockey players:

Look ladies and gentlemen (although I use that one VERY loosely after last night's games). I worked a 3 set with our 21 year old son. In game 1, there's a clear puck battle just in front of the net. A little bumping and grinding but nothing that warranted a penalty. Home team player totally turns and slashes the other player in the shins. It's very deliberate and obviously a penalty. He's mad the other guy isn't going too. He starts in on the kid, who's broken up more fights doing Juniors than this plug had ever seen. The kid tells him to stop talking and go to the box. Nope...more profanity and rage...eventually gets a game misconduct for Abusive and Obscene Language.

Game 3 is worse is filled with incessant whining about every call from guys who skate worse than I would with my skates on the wrong feet, stickhandle like they have 20 pound weights on their wrists and who've played in fewer games than I've reffed (over 800 and counting) by a factor of at least 10. I am relatively terrible at hockey compared to our sons, but I could skate in the aforementioned wrong skates and outscore this group with a left-handed mini stick (I'm right handed).

At any rate, I ignored the whining and we called a very safe and fair game (even according to most of the losing team). Did that stop 1 guy from earning not 1,.but 2 (yes...2) Match Penalties after the game. Furthermore, his captain lost his mind and earned a game misconduct for Abuse of Official.

TL;DR / Back to the PSA part of this for you benders wearing shoe size skates and calling for passes by banging like an iron chef chopping vegetables:

  1. You suck at hockey. If I am an order of magnitude better than you and I know that I suck...you're really bad at hockey. Quit taking shit so seriously and try to have fun.

  2. Quit blaming the refs when you can't pass 5' without turning it over the other two, especially when you play worse defense than a pylon because you're so bad you actively make it harder for your goalie to make saves.

  3. Definitely don't shove a ref so hard it's visible on camera that he's being shoved. Definitely don't exacerbate THAT match penalty by threatening a player on the other team that you'll go get your gun from the car.

Ok...that TL;DR was pretty long. How about we sum it up like this: Learn the rulebook, shut up, and try to have fun playing a great sport. Oh, and get skates 1.5-2 full sizes lower.than you currently have. You look like a drunk Bamby.

Stop Buying Garbage Golf Balls!

If I could change one thing myth about golf it would be that cart players are faster than walkers. If I got a 2nd change it would be to finally convince the masses to quit spending good money on crappy ass golf balls. The first on that list would be the awful Callaway SuperSoft. Proof of what I've been saying for years (that they're an abject waste of money) comes from the Mygolfspy.com Ball Lab tests:

https://mygolfspy.com/labs/millions-play-the-callaway-supersoft-heres-what-ball-lab-found/

Just go to someplace like Dick's / Golf Galaxy and get Maxfli Tour S balls (48 for under $120 at the worst) and you'll get a vastly improved urethane-covered ball. You can also go someplace like LostGolfBalls.com and buy a good ball like the TaylorMade Tour Response or something like that for about the same price.

WTS: Multiple Items including a G440LST 7.5° driver head / Ventus VeloCore+ Blue 6X shaft / and more

I have a big assortment of items I'm selling to fund the purchase of a new driver and wedge.  I ship fast using UPS and package items well, so once you pay via PayPal (G&S only, please!!! / fees and shipping to the lower 48 US states included in the listed price), I will get your purchase en route to you later that same day or the next day at the latest.  I have a few other things, but these are hitting my 10-item limit, so I'm going to wait until next month to sell those.  Message me if you have any questions about anything below.  I have plenty of positive feedback on GolfWRX and eBay as well. These are cross-posted, so all are offered on a "whoever pays first" basis.

Check out the shared folder here, where I put all the pictures:

1.  Ping G440 LST 7.5° Limited Edition Driver with stock 29g weight and aftermarket 25g and 35g weights.  This is being sold as Head Only (or pair with a shaft below - I will put a Ping G440 adapter on it before shipping and give a $25 discount on a shaft if "bundled") - This is in excellent condition, with a few minor scratches from sandy range balls on the face you can't see at address.  I covered the serial #, but this was purchased via GolfWRX from an authorized Ping retailer and is registered for warranty purposes with Ping.  This comes with the OEM headcover that was never used.  There are no sky marks or any other damage - $****$400~~ ~~Price Drop!!! $375 SOLD!!!

2.  Maltby TS4 DBM iron heads - 3-9 iron.  These were paired with the Mizuno PW below.  They were confirmed to be at the standard TS4 lofts and lies at the time I started using them, and have been 100% cleaned and prepped for immediate installation once you get them.  These were used for under 2 months, and almost entirely in the simulator due to winter / early spring weather.  As you can see, the finish is still in great condition and the irons look amazing.  I loved the feel of these, but like the Vice irons I'm playing now better.

I paid just under $375 for these before tax and shipping, but am selling at a discount because they are used:  $300 Price Drop!!! $275 = $39/iron head (over $25 off when you take into account shipping and tax!)

3.  Mizuno Pro T-3 46° Pitching Wedge with an MMT105S (more MMT shafts listed below).  In good condition with a black Golf Pride MCC standard-size grip (same 2+2 grip tape combo as above) - $100 SOLD!!!!

4.  Ventus VeloCore+ Blue 6X - I replaced this with a new TR Blue+ 6X and no longer need it.  It's built to "thriver" or mini-driver length and currently has a Titleist tip on it (I can swap for a Ping adapter to bundle with the G440LST).  I'm tempted to keep this to test with the new GTS4 that will arrive early in June, so I'm not desperate to sell it, but I'm open to offers, and if you want this with the G440LST, I will get it built with a Ping adapter and shipped out ASAP.  It does have a little "bag chatter" that I tried to capture in the pics that is paint / surface level only, so it is slightly discounted even though it's otherwise basically new (bought 2 days before the TR Blue+ was announced) and has a clean Golf Pride Tour Velvet 360 Cord standard-size grip installed (same 2+2 grip tape combo as above):   $175 Price Drop!!! $150 SOLD!!!!

5.  MCA Tensei Orange 55x shaft with a Titleist adapter.  This is a little light for me, so it's had very little use since being purchased new.  It has a clean Golf Pride Tour Velvet 360 Cord standard-size grip installed (same 2+2 grip tape combo as above). About 43" to end of grip (plays about 1 1/4" short). This is in the last 3 images of the Imgur post :  $75

6.  UST Mamiya ProForce V2 shaft - 5F2 flex - this is also "thriver" or 3W length and was an experiment to pair the shaft famous for being a long-driver's favorite at a fairway-finder length with respectable distance.  It worked great, but we get too much wind here to play this myself as a high-spin player:  $75 with an adapter (if I have one that matches what you need) / $60 without an adapter

I also have an assortment of steel wedge shafts, including a full set of unused Vokey stock wedge shafts with brand new Titleist Tour Velvet grips, some single 4, 5, and 6 iron graphite shafts (2 LA Golf 105 A Series Stiff, an older LA Golf, a KBS TGI 100, and a couple of others), and 2 used Vokey SM9 wedges (60.08M in a homemade oil can finish and a 50.08F).

I also have a "Temu" LAB Mezz.1 clone. It's well-done and putts well, but it isn't a real LAB. If you want to try the zero-torque (or at least face-balanced), let me know and I'll add pictures to the folder.

Finally, if you have interest in a nice set of used 2021 Callaway Apex TCB irons (4-PW) on Nippon 130X shafts (yes, rebar for those high swing speed guys), let me know and I'll PM you some pictures. These are my son's clubs and he's now using a set of my irons on some similarly stiff shafts.
