Address Headache
Has anyone dealt with an address verification system randomly assigning an apartment number to a single-family home?
We’ve lived in the same house for over 20 years. Our property technically sits on two lots, but it’s one house with one mailing address. Sometime in the last 2–3 years, address verification systems started automatically changing our address to include “Apartment B.”
The problem is that many companies won’t let me override their address verification. Even if I type my correct address, it “corrects” it to include Apt. B.
At first it was mostly an annoyance, but over the last year our mail carrier has started returning packages addressed to “Apartment B” because there is no apartment. I’ve had multiple shipments sent back before they ever reached me.
I’ve already gone through our county’s 911 addressing office to make sure our official address is correct, but that doesn’t fix whatever database these companies are using.
Short of installing a second mailbox labeled “B” (which I’d rather not do), does anyone have any suggestions? Has anyone successfully gotten these address verification databases corrected, or figured out which company manages them?
I’m open to any ideas because this is becoming a regular headache.
