You had me at retrofit.

Ok reposted with cutoff pics. Sorry folks!

Was gonna do ap1 or tsx projectors for a period correct look..but sometimes ya just gotta go with the best. Morimoto d2s 5.0 with Denso ballasts and Hella 5000k. That purple cutoff 😋 I think the FX-R or the like would have been a sweet setup too, maybe try that sometime...

These were surprisingly easy, though I do build retrofits for other nissans as a side job/hobby so it wasn't unfamiliar but I did expect a little resistance. Nope. Hope the projector heat doesn't melt the reflector trim, will prolly go back and add washers to center them against the trim while aimed. As it stands, the adjusters are aimed high enough up that the projector tilted up a little vertically in the trim. So I'll go back, I want those cool little built-in levellers to actually show an even keel 😂😂 also, I think plastic lenses will be best to not distort the beam and cutoff any further. Gonna think that one over cause the oem glass looks really nice.

Cheers

Surpringly easy to do, though I do build retrofits for other nissans as a side job/hobby so it wasn't unfamiliar. Hope the projector heat doesn't melt the reflector trim, will prolly go back and add washers to bottom mounts to level projectors with trim. As it is, the adjusters are aimed high enough up that the projector it tilted up a little vertically in the trim. Could I leave it alone? Sure, but why when u can make it perfect! I want those cool little built in levellers to actually show an even level 😀 also, i think plastic lenses will be best. The glass distorts the cutoff somewhat. Anyways, some thoughts...

Plastic or glass? Glass is for oem purists but the plastic will perform better over time.

Hey all, I'm addressing the headlights. I use morimoto mini h1 9.0 or d2s 5.0 for every retrofit I do but for my personal 97 240sx I was thinking I'd go back in time a little with the ap1 projectors.

Is there anyone here who has done retrofits hopefully specifically on a kouki that can say I'd be making a mistake vs the morimotos? I want to make sure I dont do the job 2 or 3 times.

Not sure if the current spec morimoto d2s or mini hmumodels with a retro-quik board are a much simpler, quicker install than the ap1 for this car?

Really just any input would be great from those with kouki/ap1 experience. I found a few tutorials with good info but they were pretty outdated and hopefully theres some newer experiences here.

Thank you!

Hey all, I was wanting to get moving on the brakes and do the z32 swap with parking brake (i mistyped r32 in the title, sorry! all these s, r z cars...). anyways the 300zx knuckles with backing plates, ebrake assembly and hubs go for like 600+ shipped before the r33 ebrake cables.

I was wondering, is there a reason I can't just buy z32 rear backing plates and new parking brake shoes/hardware kit, z1 anchor bolts and guides and save a couple hundred bucks minimum?

Is this a case of oem parts and having a complete kit vs piecing together an aftermarket set? Or maybe are there extra parts on the z32 complete assembly I may need?

I'm not in any rush, but I dont want to take it all apart only to find theres more I needed and now the project is stuck.

Also, what is the forum most use these days? I assume theres stickys and a peer to peer marketplace that can answer so many of my questions.

I recently bought this 1997 model, 5 spd, 160k miles and bone stock, silver moss, and even stock this car is a torquey blast. Anyways. Thank you!
