Cleaning out a rust removal tank
I have a lot of iron in my water, enough that the 'rust defence' or similar salt isn't sufficient so I have an iron treatment/removal unit between my well and the water softener.
The iron treatment unit has been in place for 10 or so years at this point so it's time to replace the media. Local companies quoted $700+ to do this (I could nearly buy a new unit for that price) so decided to diy the media replacement.
While some of the old media just poured out, I found that some of the old media is essentially a 'solid' block of rust. Any suggestions on how I might dissolve it or break it down into smaller chunks to empty out the tank?
