4 weeks Itinerary – North & Southisland

My girlfriend and I will visit New Zealand from mid december until mid january for about 30 days.
Starting in Auckland, flying back from Christchurch.

Currently we need to decide whether we take the ferry from Wellington to Picton, then do Abel Tasman and continue on the west coast or if we drive back to Auckland, take the plane to Christchurch and do a roundtrip on the Southisland back to Christchurch without Abel Tasman.

Basic Itinerary so far (1 night remaining):
Auckland (2 nights)
Rotorua (3 nights)
Taupo (1 night)
Tongariro (3 nights)
Transfer to Southisland
Abel Tasman (3 nights)
Punakaiki (1 night)
Franz Josef (3 nights)
Wanaka (3 nights)
Te Anau (3 nights)
Glenorchy/Queenstown (2 nights)
Mount Cook (2 nights)
Lake Tekapo (1 night)
Christchurch (1 night)

How’s this itinerary? Where would you spend the remaining night?
What do you think about skipping Abel Tasman and where would you spend the gained 3 nights?

Waterproof Socks or Shoecovers - How do you keep your feet dry?

Until now I used some old shoecovers. I need something new and thought about getting some thin waterproof socks from Sealskinz for rainy days.

What do you use in a race and why? Covers or socks? Any recommendations?

Loop-Placement for Laces

Hey guys, I’m new in the myog-world (and sewing in general) and need a little bit of your help for my framebag.
I want to mount it with laces on some parts but I’m not 100% sure, how to make the loops best.

I use X-Pac fabric and basic webbing for the loops. How do you sew them best?
I saw a video where someone glued the ends together first and sewed them on the right side of the fabric. Then he placed the other fabric on top and sewed again.
Is that the best way to do it?
Would you add some stitches in the seam allowance area to make the connection through the webbing stronger?
How do you sew your webbing loops?

New cranks - same length as before or shorter?

I need new cranks for my Epic 8, size L (bought it as frameset und used old cranks, now it‘s time for something new).
On all my MTBs I had 175mm cranks and had no problems. With the trend of using shorter cranks, I‘m not sure if I should stay at 175mm or go down to 170mm.
Epic 8 was sold by Specialized with 175mm, the Epic 9 now comes with 170mm.

I‘m 180cm (5‘11“) with an inseam of 86,5cm (34“).
Bike is used for MTB-Ultraraces and easy trails, no XC-Racing.

(I have a really good offer for new XX SL cranks in 175mm 😅)
