Super Grub - Home made doner wrap + Dönerdog

This Super Grub meat is decent. Bought from Costco, thrown into a very hot frying pan with some shredded onions, peppers and jalapeños, drizzled with some Encona hot sauce.

Yes, it may surprise some of you but those genuinely are some veggies there. They are epic when stir fries with the meat. I wish more places could do this.

Those flatbreads are really good. Wife picked them up from Tesco or Asda. This is a good option if you want a bab at home. I've not picked up any of the Iceland stuff which does get some good reviews on here.

Dönerdog highly approved of the meat.

Legend Kebab - Ewell

Forgot to post this one...

Swung by Legend Kebab in Ewell after a recent gig. Here we have the XL Lamb Doner wrap with chili sauce and no salad.

Meat was freshly cut from the spit. Chili sauce is a very tasty home made one. This chonky boi takes two big wraps to handle all the meaty goodness.

Weighing in at 729g for £12, this isn't the biggest I've had from there but still works out at good value. With an A grade for the sauce and an A grade overall, this lands at 15/91 on the spreadsheet.

I'll definitely be back. I've been going to this place for years and it's one of my favourite shops. Highly recommended.

Yummy - Gosport

Another Gosport gig and from the three options on the main drag, decided to pop into Yummy again.

Here we have the usual; lamb doner wrap, lots of chili sauce, no salad. Meat was served from the bain marie and it's a decent, home made chili sauce.

I gave this a B grade overall. Sauce is nice and overall it is decent. Nothing extraordinary here. It was very greasy. Often the case when meat is served from the bain marie. If we wanna be really finicky, it wasn't even folded at the bottom so the grease would have ran straight out onto my shorts. This ain't my first rodeo so I refolded before eating.

Tale of the tape shows this bad boy at 476g for a very reasonable price of £7.50. This is the cheapest compared to Orhan's and Istanbul Grill and also works out at the best value. This has landed on the spreadsheet at 22/91, making them the highest placed of the three.

I'm back in Gosport in October so again, it'll probably be one of those three, unless there's another option that's open until 1am.

Efes Kebab & Pizza - Southampton

Was recommended this place in Southampton. Here we have my usual, lamb doner wrap, chili sauce, no salad.

Meat was served from the bain marie although that was topped up while I waited. Good splodge of chili sauce in this. It's a homemade chili sauce and it's very tangy with a respectable heat, very tasty.

As you can see, it was a bit greasy but it was demolished very quickly. I'm giving the sauce an A grade but this gets a B overall. Nice, tasty kebab and at just £7.60 for 471g, this has landed at 29/91 on the spreadsheet. I'll probably go back again, but there's another shop Just down from there that I need to try as well now!

Ferring Kebab House

Always nice to try somewhere completely different. After an afternoon slot at a festival, a kebab is always needed. Found this place and thought I'd pop in.

Here we have my usual, lamb doner wrap, chili sauce, no salad. Meat was cut from the spit. The chili sauce was homemade, and very nice and perky it was too! This was a good, juicy handful and was very much enjoyed.

I've added a picture of the salad selection, for those who are that way inclined. Also a pic of those chonky chips. I've given them an A grade overall. That kebab was devoured in minutes and I was also dipping my chips into the chili sauce.

The weigh in was an above average 496g with a below average price of £7.50. This puts them at an impressive 14/90 for value on the spreadsheet. One of the better ones I've had recently. Well played.

New Haw Kebab Centre

Wanted an update on this place. Previously sitting at 12th on the spreadsheet but was a 2024 visit. The nearby Kebabland in Addlestone had had a revisit and ripped down the table, as had a few others, to be fair. So, how will they fare nowadays?

Here we have my usual, lamb doner wrap, chili sauce, no salad. Meat was a mix of freshly cut and bain marie. Bossman was shaving the leg and topping up the pot. Chili sauce is homemade and decent. Again, could have done with a bit more.

This was a tasty unit and was despatched in just a few minutes. Slightly greasy but not bad at all. I will possibly use here again. It's a very busy shop and there were another three folks in ordering plus lots of phone orders. However, Kebabland is a nearby and slightly better option. Plus, I could also try somewhere else in the area.

Tale of the tape shows this weighing in at an under average 427g and costing an over average £9. That's very unfortunate as it drops them way, way down the spreadsheet now. They are now down at 74/89 for value.

A place is only as good as their last kebab.

Castle Kebab - Windsor

Post gig kebab from Castle Kebab in Windsor. As mentioned on here before, there are not a huge amount of options at 2am in Windsor, and this place has repeatedly outperformed the nearby Ramsey's Grill.

Here we have a Medium, yes Medium, Lamb Doner Wrap with chili sauce and jalapeños. Yeah, slight change to usual because I bloody love jalapenos.

This place has a slick system, walk in one door, order and pay, then move along the counter where another Bossman preps your order. They take a very nice bread, add your choice of salad and sauce, then pop it on the hot plate to warm through. Meat is shaved directly from the spit then put onto your wrap.

As you can see, it was greasy. Yeah, that's all the grease on what was white paper. Could have probably done with a little plastic bag.

The meat had a more "spongy" texture than the thicker, more grainy standard. Yeah, yeah, I know it's elephant leg but even then, there are grades of it. It did seem less salty than the usual. The chili sauce was crappy bottled stuff but the bread was the big saviour here. Very tasty, thick flatbread.

Also ordered a portion of popcorn chicken for £4. Couldn't resist it. Dönerdog finished those off when I got home.

Now, down to the tale of the tape. This weighed in at a respectable 514g and at a very decent £7, this has moved to 9/89 for value! It gets a B grade overall. It's ok, would go again, especially as there are so few local options at that time.

Here is the lesson. Never go Large. Just order the Medium. This is the fourth time I've been here and this is the biggest wrap. However, every other time, I've asked for a Large. I see this in so many places.

At that weight, if I'd have been charged for a Large, it would be at be at 44, but due to the price, it's at 9. Your mileage may vary, but for me, and at numerous places, I've found that for lamb doner, just order a Medium. A Large is a bigger price for about the same portion.

Roadside Kitchen - Camberley

Played a Sunday afternoon gig in Bagshot. Thought I'd pop back to here for the post gig kebab.

Usual order - lamb doner wrap, chili sauce, no salad. That's what I like, and I don't care what you'd prefer.

Meat was served from the bain marie. The homemade chili sauce was decent and flavourful. The weigh in was interesting, given such a big disparity between two identical orders. Don't expect to see over 160g between two mesium wraps.

I demolished the big one before the drive home. It was decent. Nothing remarkable here. Give it a B grade overall.

As there was a big weight disparity, I've used an average of both at 481g. With a price of £8.50, they land at 47/89 on the spreadsheet. Not bad, might pop back in some time.

Dilara Kebab - Farnborough. Plus bonus Dönerdog

Another that's been waiting for upload...

After a trip to Costco, thought I'd treat myself to a trip to the Dilara can on the way home. Here we have an XL Lamb Döner wrap, chili sauce and no salad. Not only is this a wonderful and pleasing flavour combo, it has the added bonus of upsetting people.

It's a very tasty, homemade chili sauce and they always put plenty on. Look at that portion! He couldn't even close the wrap properly. As you can see, I had to hold it together for the photo. I've had an XL meat and chips from there before, and it's so big, that it comes in two boxes.

Weighing in at a mighty 823g and costing £12, this landed at 12/89 for value. Also got a free can of Pepsi max. I give this an A overall, with an A for the sauce. It's a great value feast and Bossman is a diamond.

Dönerdog is a big fan. Wouldn't leave my side as we went through this together.

Grill House - Shirley, Southampton

Another that I've forgotten to upload! Did a Sunday afternoon gig in Southampton, this place was nearby so thought I'd give it a try.

This place is also a restaurant and is very nice inside. The breads were all made fresh and when I saw them being made, I just had to order two wraps. While I was waiting, Bossman gave me a bowl of lentil soup and a few tasty lamb ribbons. I devoured those as he told me about all the specials that they do on certain days. I was highly impressed. Expectations were high about the delights about to come my way.

Then... out came those glorious breads, to have the meat served from the bain marie. OK, not too bad, but then my heart sank as the bottle of chilli sauce was picked up and squirted all over. I was gutted. You know the ones, that Crucials or similar such ilk, synthetic spicy ketchup stuff.

I took the bag with a smile and went to my car, checking that there were actually two wraps in there. Opened up, weighed one and devoured it pretty quickly. It was alright overall. This has been given a B grade overall, thanks to the delicious bread. That's elevated it from a C. Meat was fine, sauce was awful. I really need to start asking about the chili sauce before doing my orders. That crappy sauce really soured it. A better portion size with a nice, homemade chili sauce would have made this a solid A grade.

Here's the tale of the tape. This weighed in at a shameful 272g, the lowest weight on the spreadsheet. Costing just £7, it still lands at 85/89 for value. It all started so well, then went downhill rapidly. Such a shame.

North End Kebab - Portsmouth

Friday night, played a gig in Portsmouth and tried this place. Again, you don't have a world of options at quarter to one in the morning, and this place was open and fairly nearby.

Here we have my usual, lamb doner wrap, chili sauce and no salad. Meat was served from the bain marie and it was a homemade chili sauce. Sauce was a bit sweet with a hint of lemon, alright overall. Bread was thicker and tastier than a standard tortilla that often gets used.

Yeah, as you can tell, it was pretty much just thrown together and bundled in paper. I got the meal so I weighed the chips too, so you can see how much you get for the extra money.

Tale of the tape... this weighed in at a reasonable 547g and for an under average £8, it's pretty good value overall, landing at 13/89 on the spreadsheet. I gave it a B grade overall. I'll be playing down that way again so will probably pop back in there next time.

Southsea Grill

Another one I'd forgotten to post...
Conveniently situated between the Wedgewood Rooms and the free parking on the seafront, I popped into here after a recent gig. Always like to try a new place and see how they stand up.

Here we have the usual, lamb doner wrap, no salad and chili sauce. Meat was served from the bain marie and the sauce was a sickly sweet bottled affair which wasn't great at all.

Weighing in at a disappointing 367g, and that's after Bossman put a bit extra meat in after I said "no salad" but a low price of £6.50, this hiya the spreadsheet at 48/88.

Gave this kebab a disappointing C grade overall. This just wasn't very good. I won't be back.

Kebabland - Addlestone

Forgot to upload this... I was recently in Addlestone and popped into Kebabland. Previously sitting 12th on the spreadsheet, it needed an update from 2024.

Here we have the usual lamb doner wrap, chili sauce and no salad. Meat was served from the Bain Marie and it's a homemade chili sauce, which is decent. This was... alright. Nothing particularly exciting, it did the job. However, it did have a lot of leakage. Don't know if this is all grease or sauce separation but it's annoyingly inconvenient.

Weighing in at 493g and costing £8.70, this has dropped to 47/88 on the spreadsheet. That's quite the drop from where they were before. Understand the price increase due to inflation but the size drop as well was disappointing. Unlikely that I'll return because they're always closed before venues close. I'll stick to other late night options.

Never tried this place before so thought I'd give it a whirl. It's walking distance from Kings Kebab which is always busy, so was curious to see how they measure up to the competition.

Here we have my usual; lamb doner wrap, chili sauce, no salad. Meat was served from the Bain Marie and it was a homemade chili sauce. Sauce was alright, nothing special. Wrap was laid out and sauce was spread over it, then meat was added and another ladle of sauce was poured over. That's some good sauce technique. Meat was decent, had been nicely browned before going in the Bain Marie.

But how does it compare? Well, weighing in at a very average 480g (0.8g above) but costing more at £8.95, this lands on the spreadsheet at 55/86 for value. They're well above Charcoal Grill, who are last, but well below the nearby Kings Kebab van who are currently second on the spreadsheet, giving 706g for just £8.

It was alright. I'd give it a B grade overall. Highly unlikely that I'll go back considering there's a brilliant option nearby.

Played a gig out in the sticks last night. Searched for kebab options nearby or on the way home, and this is what I got.
Here we have the usual, lamb doner wrap, chili sauce, no salad. Wrap was warmed on the hot plate, meat was served from the Bain Marie. The chili sauce was homemade and a bit more perky than usual. This had more of a kick to it, plus a hint of mint. Very tasty! Plus, Bossman did give me extra, like I asked for.
This was decent overall. I'd give the whole thing a grade B. Meat and bread was standard. However, this was WET! There was a lot of drippage from this. Thankfully the foil kept most of the leakage safe. Might have been grease or water from sauce separation, or both.
OK, down to business. This cost £8.70, and weighing in at 485g, this has landed at 48/85 on the spreadsheet. They lie third of the five I've had in Basingstoke. Smiley's are still the local leaders there.
Six more gigs this month; London, Surrey and the South coast, including a new venue. There will be babs. The spreadsheet will be getting some updates and new additions.
Happy babbing!

Popped into Fareham Kebab on my way back from a gig in Gosport last night. There are three Gosport shops on the main road out, and I'd revisited them in the last few weeks. I thought I'd update the sheet for Fareham Kebab at the train station.

Well, here is the usual, lamb doner wrap, chili sauce, no salad. The meat had been cut from the spit. Home made chili sauce which was poured on the wrap and spread all over before adding the meat. Not seen anywhere else use this method. Liked it but could have maybe done with a touch more sauce. The sauce itself was ok, but nothing exciting.

There's a hint of extra bbq flavour in the meat here. It's very decent overall. I'd give it a B grade. I'll go back as it's a decent option and tends to be open after local gigs.

Here's the mad bit... weighing in at 413g and costing £7, it's at 39/84 on the spreadsheet... exactly where it was before! Yup, the 2024 entry was the exact same price and weight. That's an impressive consistency.

Back in Fareham next month. Got a couple of new venues too. There'll be more updates and new reviews on the way.
