Respect to the Managing Director of Egosoft

Wanted to give some public flowers to the CEO of Egosoft, Bernd Lehahn. I posted a suggested change last week about module positioning on this subreddit.

He did a great Q&A on Captain Collins' live stream (great video if you haven't seen it), and he said to just drop him an email if you have a feature suggestion, and even handed out his email address.

So I did just that regarding the station module placement idea I had. His response below was sent at 23:45 UK time last night!

In the age of faceless game publishers, this approach is so refreshing and a great way to make the community feel heard. He also treated me like an adult by tempering expectations, which I liked.

Saw a good post on here recently about how chill the community is towards the devs, and I think this is a big part of it and something other companies could learn from tbh.

Feature idea: Station placement

Been thinking about this for a while and nearest equivalent I can think of is the text over image alignment tools you get.

So when placing stations it’s tough to align them within the 3D space.

The station building spaces exist within a 3d space made up of an x, y, z axis. Manually this can be hard to align modules precisely to maximise the use of space when building stations.

This feature would give the player more precise control over module placement in 3D but still retain the existing manual control allowing player freedom.

So using the image provided above the following functionality would be:

Default behaviour

Left alignment (default: module would align to the left edge of the x or z axis)

Centre alignment (default: module would align to the centre of the x or z axis)

Right alignment (default: module would align to the right of the x or z axis)

Top alignment (default: module would align to the top of the y axis)

Center alignment (default: module would align to the center of the y axis)

Bottom alignment (default: module would align to the bottom of the y axis)

Additional thoughts:

Combining these would allow you quickly center align or right top align modules within 3D space.
