Explore and Revisit Station Commands

So I know by now if I want a sector fully explored in a decent time I have to manually create “fly to and wait” commands for a ship rather than relying on the “explore sector command” due to the latter’s pattern of randomly expanding from the center, leading to very long explore times.

I want to start setting up dedicated scouts to renew trade info across various sectors but I’d rather not go through the process of creating detailed routes for each scout. I know repeat orders exist but if i ever need to recall a ship for repairs or inventory deposit, I’d have to make the route all over again. I don’t have the money for each sector to get a scout and multiple guides say to avoid using too many satellites due to their tendency to decrease performance as the game progresses.

When I first used the “revisit station” command queued up across multiple sectors for a scout, I played for maybe an hour and checked on their progress to see that they were still at the first sector. It looked like it was following the logic of the explore command rather than going directly to each station and then moving on to the next queued sector. I can think of a few explanations for this but I wanted to query the community in case my intuition is wrong.

1.) The scout first fully explores the sector before proceeding to target visit each station.
2.) The stations queued for revisit were already updated, so the scout defaulted to patrol logic.
3.) The “revisit stations” is a looped/endless command that does progress to the next order until manually directed.

The key question I would like answered is: Can I rely on repeat orders to “revisit stations to keep the trade info for multiple sectors up to date?

Side note:
I know based on map geometry that dividing scouts based on faction might not be optimal for path/travel time, but it would allow me to know quickly which scout I have to replace in the event one gets destroyed.

Side questions:

Can 1 scout per faction travel fast enough to cover all stations before the trade info expires?

If not, what factions would need multiple scouts? Which nearby factions could maybe share a single scout?

9.0 fighter loadouts

I'm thinking about mass-producing fighters in my own docks with mixed loadouts, like 1 ion gatling, 1 plasma, 1 blast beam or blast mortar, 1 tau, you get the idea, I'm not hellbent on a specific combination yet

Will low star pilot AI be able to handle a mixed loadout? It works fine for the player, each weapon having its own tracking based on different projectile speeds

Or would it be more effective to fill all slots with the same weapon? If so, which weapon would perform well vs mixed S/M/L fleets?

Are torpedo fighters viable in 9.0 beta? A light torpedo does a bit over 3k damage but Xenon K have a few mil shield hp and iirc something like 200k hull HP.

I've noticed shield-piercing is not as useful as in X3, where every bit of hull damage would reduce ship speed, making it easier to hit a damaged target. Is there some benefit in X4 9.0 that I'm not aware of?

On another note, how do I get cyphers? They never seem to bail for me and I really want some ships that can stunlock enemies

Destroying Defense Stations

Hello, I have 140+hrs now but I still haven't figured out how to attack defense stations, I want to purge Hatikvah's choice. I have 3 behemoths, 1 Tokyo, and can now print terran S ships. I tried numerous times but my ships keeps ramming the station and losing fighters especially 5 star pilots hurts. I also named them veterans cause they've been with me since day 1 when I was barely surviving hahah

Planets.

This has probably been suggested before, but are there plans to walk and build on planets? I think that would be quite immersive and "satisfactory."

I may have gone overboard.

Some lessons learned...

  • When building a defence platform, don't forget to set up turret loadouts. I did, and originally ended up with an expensive but utterly useless station. It took nearly a week to then retrospectively arm the damned thing.
  • 10 Argon defence discs murders anything in seconds.
  • Friendly fire on build storage is unbelievably frustrating. Disarm your turrets until it's ready.

Restricted space is driving me crazy

Haven't played in a while and about 6 or 7 hours into this current game. Anyway, early on, i attempted to enter a jump gate in Terran space that leads to Moon sector. Authorities quickly stated, im entering a restricted area to change course or face military response. I never even knew they were comm with me so im looking for a nearby vessel in red. Then I hear the orders to attack the trespassing vessel then they stormed me and destroyed my ship in seconds.

I had to reload my last save. Then i looked up info that Terran relations should be +15 or higher to get the pass to enter restricted area. So i got that after running a few missions. Then, i took a mission to deliver several different material types to a shipyard in the Moon sector where payout was over 533,000 cr. So I loaded up my Frog class courier with a couple thousand of two material types for delivery to that shipyard. I ordered my captain to carry out the trade at the shipyard. It gets there and sits on hold position. Then after a while of it sitting I realized something was wrong. So I locked a course to a nearby station with the scout i was aboard.

After that, I sent the courier to the same station so i can rendezvous and switch command of the ships. I figured I'd handle the courier myself. Well, I get the dreaded message while approaching that other station...you are entering restricted area change course immediately. Scrambling trying to change course, i didn't do it in time and they proceeded with military action. So...boom, lost both ships including the loaded courier. So what gives? I accepted the mission but can't complete it. Do i need even higher rep to enter the stations? It's like i am Terran but my own people are destroying me.

This game has a chokehold on me, that no other game since maybe factorio.

I bought this game on May 15th, its now may 20th and i have put 60 hours into it. i do not need help, i am exactly where i want to be.

On this note heres my cursed power plant setup that i made when i realised 200% sunlight = 200% profit. i AM the producer of energy cells in this galaxy.

Multi-Resource Stations

I keep seeing old posts, videos, and guides talking about how stations struggle to maintain multiple types of the different resource categories (i.e. auto-mine orders focusing a single specific resource vs multiple when required for a certain production). Is this still the case and I should just make multiple stations tailored to specific resources or is it now safe to build all-in-one stations?

Station plan repository supported by devs would greatly increase conversion from pirated game to legit

Devs please, go Factorio School route

All you need to do is host some website that you log into with legit store account, and a way to import a string into the game. Station plans are already saved as xml, we would want to have players sharing their designs.

L ships bulldoze asteroids!

I was wondering how my destroyers aren't slowing down at all when crossing this asteroid field in high attention, when I switched to f2 and realized they just charge through head first leaving a trail of destruction. Never noticed this before.

A question on resources.

I am running a terran mega station, currently with 6 microlattice factories, 4 carbide mills, and 2 substrate factories and an S/M ship fabrication bay.

I am continuously running out of metallic microlattice. So I raised ship prices to 150% to slow down consumption and build a surplus. The terrans and pioneers just kept buying.

So I must ask, what is the best factory ratio to avoid any resource bottlenecks on a shipyard in a high demand market?

What would happen if you just went afk for 5,000 hours? Would the Xenon completely take over?

Just got this game a few days ago, absolutely loving it, still trying to wrap my head around it all. I'm coming from a ton of Factorio experience where I would just afk and let the game run for weeks sometimes, just doing small tweaks and things when I have time.

What would happen if this game were to just sit afk for long enough?

I've already let it run overnight a few times with some miners gathering and selling ore and silicon.

Would the Xenon theoretically just destroy every station and completely dominate space? Or would the other factions balance out and be able to hold their own?

Let's talk organization: the sheer number of ships to manage as I grow my faction hurts my brain

As the title states, I'm getting too many ships... I really don't have a lot, but for me it's a lot to manage.

Mostly I am hoping to hear about how y'all organize yours empires. Naming convention? Fleet organizations? Etc..

I have a couple miners. One battleship fleet, a couple Hyperions that I use as a long distance QRF. A small fleet of light fighters as QRF.

I have a few random traders that I use for reputation gains.

I think it totals less than 20 to 25 ships.

I honestly prefer to be pretty active flying missions and interdiction and such. I'm not super into the management but if I could find a way to keep things organized better then maybe I'd be into that.

Volatile Factions Mod?

What I mean by this is: Are there any mods that make the different factions more dynamic in terms of war fronts? I’m on my first play through with probably 50ish hours and I’ve noticed a couple of incursions from the Xenon into Hatikvah’s Choice but after destroying an Argon factory or two they fizzle out. This is probably the only real “war” I’ve observed beyond seeing another Argon destroyer just get obliterated when going into Holy Order space. Starting out I like having a stable universe to get myself oriented but it’d be neat to have the borders become a bit more erratic outside of my own direct intervention. Even just feeding the economy of the faction I favor to put the scales in their favor of a more dynamic universe would be interesting to explore.

A few posts I’ve read say the game caps the militaries/economies of the various factions and I’m wondering how true that is and if there were something to “un-cap” it.

Respect to the Managing Director of Egosoft

Wanted to give some public flowers to the CEO of Egosoft, Bernd Lehahn. I posted a suggested change last week about module positioning on this subreddit.

He did a great Q&A on Captain Collins' live stream (great video if you haven't seen it), and he said to just drop him an email if you have a feature suggestion, and even handed out his email address.

So I did just that regarding the station module placement idea I had. His response below was sent at 23:45 UK time last night!

In the age of faceless game publishers, this approach is so refreshing and a great way to make the community feel heard. He also treated me like an adult by tempering expectations, which I liked.

Saw a good post on here recently about how chill the community is towards the devs, and I think this is a big part of it and something other companies could learn from tbh.

Took out the VIG station in Avarice plot without cheesing it

Last playthrough, I completed this quest by totally cheesing the heck out of it. Pre-built a defense station, used a captured Asgard, that sort of stuff.

This time, approached it how it seems to be intended, and it's way more fun. Had a little fleet of Delilah's Swansong as my flagship with L beans and flak, being followed by four Osakas armed with M Flak turrets, the Odysseus also armed with Flak. Even that seems to take unacceptable losses due to those VIG missiles.

Then it hit me. A carrier with 70 heavy fighters, each with flares for good measure, set to intercept for commander. Even though we lost about 20 fighters in the end (most because they stupidly flew right into the target station guns, chasing a couple defense drones), the pilots were later rescued by the carrier. The station was blown up by the combined firepower, and finally, the 15M paid off the VIG to get off my back.

Those fighters distracted the enemy enough that not a single missile incoming message was heard on my Syn. Not sure of the rest of the destroyers, but none were damaged.

I will plan to wipe the VIG eventually, but for now, that was a great fight with a lot of fireworks!

What to do with Xenon ships?

As the title suggests, I’m not quite sure what I should do with captured Xen ships. I wasn’t even expecting to capture anything when flying up to a station in Hatikvah’s Choice, but here I am with a brand new Xen B. I’m new to the game with less than 4 hours in this save. Based on what I’ve seen, it seems better to sell it since I won’t have the research to modify it for a long time.
