9pm witching hour?

My baby (week and a half old) has a witching hour around 9pm. He’s happy and chill and sleeping and eating well all day, then 9pm hits and it’s red faced, back arched screaming for two hours until he settles and sleeps fine the rest of the night. He’ll wake up twice for more food (approx every 3-4 hours) and go back down easy.

I have absolutely no idea why his deeper sleep is second half of the night when I’ve read it’s common for the first half of the night to be deeper.

We tried gas drops and hoped that would resolve it but are not considering switching formula to see if that helps. It seems like the formula would be bothering him during other feeds too if that was the cause of his 9pm upset.

Hello all, first baby due this week. I am planning on exclusively formula feeding due to a myriad of health reasons. I’m getting some pushback from well meaning friends and family that I don’t plan to even try offering the baby colostrum.

Any thoughts on this? Experience? Anecdotes?

I’m worried if I stimulate any production whatsoever with no plan of breastfeeding/pumping, I’ll have a harder time drying up my natural supply. I don’t want to make that harder and I especially don’t want clogged ducts/mastitis, etc. I’ve been planning on just doing formula from the start but don’t want to be irrational or stubborn about it.
