Worth running vinyl through WiiM RoomFit or keep it fully analog?
Trying to decide between 3 setups for my turntable and curious what people here think.
Current Setup:
- Music Hall MMF-1.5 Turntable (Stock Melody Cartridge)
- iFi iPhono2 Phono Stage
- Hafler SE100 Preamplifier
- ADC SS-315X Equalizer
- SAE A502 Amplifier
- Acoustic Research AR90s
- WiiM Pro Plus (used for streaming Spotify)
Options:
- iPhono2 -> WiiM Pro Plus -> Preamp - Use WiiM RoomFit correction on vinyl, but obviously that means ADC/DSP/DAC conversion. I'm really happy with the WiiM DAC for streaming purposes but I know this isn't ideal.
- iPhono2 -> Preamp -> SS-315X - Stay fully analog and use the EQ, but the SS-315X has an intermittent channel dropout on the output for the left speaker. Just annoying, might be able to fix by deoxidizing the RCA contact but idk yet.
- iPhono2 -> Preamp - Shortest/cleanest analog path, but no room correction at all. I'm testing this currently and it does sound a bit muddy.
The WiiM room correction works really well for Spotify streaming (85% of my listening is through streaming) which is why I’m considering running my vinyl setup through it too.
Main question: Is the WiiM room correction worth digitizing the vinyl signal, or would you rather keep the chain fully analog and skip correction entirely? I am going for as much clarity and instrument separation as I can without needing to buy new gear (maybe an NAD c658 in the future).
Also curious if anyone here has run a turntable into a WiiM analog input for the same room EQ purposes.
