Thinking of transitioning from Steam to GOG over DRM concerns. How is your experience?

Hey everyone,

I've been a regular Steam user for years, but lately I've become increasingly concerned about DRM, license revocations, and actual game preservation. Because of this, I'm seriously considering making GOG my primary storefront going forward.

I already know that GOG Connect is discontinued and that there's no way to transfer my Steam library over to GOG, so I'd be starting fresh with future purchases or rebuying absolute favorites during sales.

For those of you who actively use or switched to GOG:

  • Offline installers & backups: How do you organize and store your offline installers? Do you keep local backups on external drives/NAS, or just rely on your GOG library downloads?
  • Store catalog: Do you find the lack of certain AAA day-one releases a major issue, or does the DRM-free catalog keep you covered?
  • Ecosystem setup: Would you recommend going all-in on GOG, or do you maintain a hybrid setup alongside Steam?
  • Galaxy launcher: How reliable is GOG Galaxy for tracking everything, or is it better to just grab the standalone installers directly from the website?

I'd appreciate any tips, experiences, or recommendations for someone looking to take DRM-free gaming more seriously. Thanks!

¿Usuarios de Mistbook por aquí? Busco conectar con otros lectores

¡Buenas!

How many stamps do you guys have so far? 📬

Hey everyone, just wanted to ask how many stamps you guys have? I started recently and only have 3 so far, though I'm waiting for 4 more that will take a good while to arrive.

By the way, feel free to use the comments to look for people from specific countries if you're missing any stamps! How are you guys doing?

How do bird rarities work? My Epic birds are slower than Common ones—is rarity just cosmetic or worth training?

Hey everyone, I recently started using Roost and I’m a bit confused about how bird rarities and tiers work.

I’ve unlocked a few Epic birds, but looking at their baseline stats, some of them are actually slower than my Common birds.

Does rarity actually affect their stats or level caps? For example:

  • If I train and level up an Epic bird through the mini-games, will its speed scaling eventually surpass a Common one?
  • Or is flight speed purely based on the real-world animal species, making rarity purely a collectible/cosmetic thing?

Would love to know if it’s worth dumping training and XP into my Epics or if I should just stick to whichever bird naturally flies the fastest. Thanks!

Hi everyone! 👋

I wanted to share a project I’ve been working on: Spotify Toolkit. It’s a modular collection of Python tools with a built-in GUI designed to enhance the Spotify experience beyond what the official app offers.

What started as a simple script to delete duplicates has evolved into a full application with an integrated console and over 15 features.

✨ Key Features:

  • Plug & Play: The official release comes pre-configured, so users don't need to create their own Spotify Developer App.
  • Integrated GUI: No terminal is required. It features a custom console engine that captures output and handles user input in real-time.
  • Multilingual Support: The app automatically detects your system language (English/Spanish).
  • Multi-threaded: Each tool runs on a separate thread to keep the UI responsive.

>

⚠️ A quick disclaimer and call for help:

To be completely honest: some tools might have bugs.

The project grew much faster than my knowledge of software architecture, and I’ll admit I’m not very experienced with automated testing (unit tests, etc.). As the codebase expands, it’s becoming harder for me to ensure everything is 100% stable across all scenarios.

I would love it if the community could help with:

  1. Bug reports: If you try it out and something breaks, please let me know!
  2. Testing/QA: If you’re a testing pro or want to help me implement a solid test suite, I’d be incredibly grateful for the guidance or a PR.
  3. General Contributions: Any code cleanup or new feature ideas are always welcome.

🛠️ Some of the tools included:

  • Dead Tracks Detector: Find and remove songs that are no longer available in your region.
  • Smart Shuffle: A "true" random shuffle that avoids Spotify's typical algorithm biases.
  • Discovery Engine: Generate fresh recommendations based on your current library.
  • Metadata Export: Backup your playlists to CSV/JSON.

GitHub Repo: https://github.com/DarksAces/Spotify-Toolkit

I hope some of you find this useful! I’m looking forward to your feedback and learning how to make the code more robust. 🎵

  • Smart Shuffle: Un modo aleatorio mejorado.
  • Discovery Engine: Encuentra música nueva basada en tus gustos.
  • Separate Genres/Artists: Organiza tus canciones favoritas automáticamente.
