Best bottom insulation for tall hikers
Tall hammock campers (6’6”+): what’s the best truly fiddle-free bottom insulation setup?
I’m 6’6” and I’ve reached the point where I just can’t deal with fiddling with underquilts anymore.
I’ve tried a bunch of hammocks and underquilts, including full-length JRB and Hammock Gear Incubators. My main problem is that I get a pretty significant calf ridge, which seems to make it difficult to keep a traditional underquilt sealed properly.
I’m also a very active sleeper and twist and turn a lot during the night. Even if I get the underquilt dialed in before sleeping, I eventually move around, create a gap somewhere, and wake up cold.
At this point I just want a true set-it-and-forget-it solution. Weight is less important to me than being able to move around without constantly worrying about my insulation.
I’m especially curious about the Dutchware Hellbender. It looks like exactly the kind of solution I want, but is it long/large enough for someone who is 6’6”? Anyone around my height tried one?
I’m also open to Superior Gear, Wooki/Blackbird XLC, or anything else.
