Just One Off…

Just One Off…

“4th of July” Star Note Found Today!

Found this today at work believe it or not! I noticed immediately that it was a birthday note (although April 7th is what I saw at first). I ran the serial number through the star note lookup site to see if it was a low print run size, but it was just average. That’s when the date popped in my head. A 4th of July bill found on the 4th of July! 😂 it’s the one day of the year that we say day month year and not month day year. I just can’t believe the odds of finding this today. Figured I just had to post this for the 4th today.

Not sure if this subreddit counts this as the 4th of July or April 7th. I’m just unsure if DDMMYYYY applies here since it is the 4th of July instead of the regular MMDDYYYY. Either way still a birthday note. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks!

Happy 4th!

“4th of July” Star Note Date Found Today

Found this today at work believe it or not. I noticed immediately that it was a birthday note (although April 7th is what I saw at first). Apparently on this date (4th of July 1896) was the first debut of the 45th star USA flag since earlier that year on January 4th 1896 Utah had become the 45th state to join the United States. That makes it the first Independence Day that Utah got to celebrate as a state of the US!

Happy 4th!

Showing Off My “Nice” Serial Numbers

Found these serial numbers over the past few months while at work. Just had to shown them off. Got serial numbers that contain: 800B, 6998008, 6969, 699420, 69420, 69420, and 420000.

Thought it was great when I had first found the 8008 serial number, then I thought it would be awesome to find a 8OO8 serial number that actually ended or started with a B… then I found exactly that not much long after.

420’s and 69’s aren’t uncommon just by themselves but I thought the combination of the two were neat.

Then got 420 the loooong way

Lowest Serial # I’ve ever found

Received this bill at work the other day. The person who gave this to me actually gave me another bill that was almost a repeater 28962869. Can’t complain too much about missing the repeater though since I did get this low serial number. I’m just inching my way to a serial number that’s <= 00000999.

Question about $20 star note run size

I found this $20 star note (NB00199441*) at work the other day and happened to notice that it could potentially have come from a low run size. I’m not too familiar with how and what makes a star note rare when it comes to run size/total printed. I plugged it into the mycurrency Star note thing they have and it gave me the information that the run size is 320,000 and the total printed is 3,520,000.

In the past when I’ve found low run size star notes the total printed was the same as run size. This is the first time I’ve encountered the run size not equaling the total printed. I’m not sure if this is considered slightly rare or not like the others I’ve found since when it comes to the run size it does show that it’s straight in the middle for rarity, however when it comes to total printed obviously it’s showing there is no rarity to this bill.

I would just like clarification since I’ve tried looking online for the answer as well as other Reddit posts and I’ve seen contradictory statements for what makes it rare. I posted the two other low star note bills that I have found, along with their mycurrency rarity graphs. Any input on this I would really appreciate.

Barely missed a repeater

At work a customer came up and gave me $30. The first bill was this $10 and I thought for sure this was a repeater. 28962869…. So close… Can’t be complaining to much though since I did get that low serial number on the $20. The $20 bill actually was 00001562 which is the lowest serial number I’ve ever found.

Unique Double Partial Ladder $1 12342468

Found this cool bill at work just a little bit ago today. Noticed that it was a half of an in order ladder with the leading 1234. I then noticed that the last half of the bill was actually an in order even numbers only ladder 2468. Pretty unique and I can’t say I’ve seen anything like it before. Little double ladder on a single bill is pretty neat.

Another cool and very unique thing about this note is that if you double 1234 you get 2468! How cool of a bill is that where the first half of the bill can double and equal the second half of the bill!

High low serial number $1

Found this low serial number at work the other day. Basically as high of a low serial number you can have to consider it “low”. Probably has a premium of $1. Still it’s the second lowest serial number I’ve found I believe.

$20 binary

Found this bill today at work. Just had an hour left of my shift but luckily something finally came through. Not a true binary but a binary at the least.

December 31st 1999 19991231 $5

Found this cool bill at work today. A cool $5 with 19991231 as the serial number or December 31st 1999. This is a pretty neat day as it’s the last day of the “20th Century” (the celebrated 20th century not actually 12/31/2000 cuz people don’t care that much about being accurate) as well as the last day of the “second millennium” (again the last day of the second millennium was 12/31/2000 but people celebrated the new millennium as the first day of 2000).
There were a lot of notable things that happened that day:

Y2K Hysteria: As midnight approached, the world held its breath for the Y2K bug—a software flaw that feared computers would misread the "00" date as 1900 and cause global infrastructure and financial collapses.

Panama Canal Transfer: At noon, the U.S. government officially transferred control of the Panama Canal to Panama, fulfilling the 1977 Torrijos-Carter Treaties.

Russian Leadership Shift: Russian President Boris Yeltsin resigned, handing the presidency over to then-Prime Minister Vladimir Putin as acting president.

December 2nd 1993 $1 bill

Found this at work a few months ago. There’s a few neat things that happened this day.

Death of Pablo Escobar**:** The Medellin Cartel leader was killed during an escape attempt on a rooftop in Medellín, ending a 16-month manhunt. He was killed one day after his 44th birthday.

Space Shuttle Endeavour launches (STS-61): NASA initiated the first servicing mission for the Hubble Space Telescope, aiming to correct a flaw in its mirror.

Renault/Volvo merger canceled**:** A planned merger between French carmaker Renault and Swedish carmaker Volvo was called off due to executive opposition at Volvo.

Conflict in Northern Ireland**:** British Army soldier Paul Garrett was killed by an IRA sniper in Keady, County Armagh.

1955 October 24th $1 bill

Found at work a few weeks ago. What I can find online about that day in history is:

On October 24, 1955, Elvis Presley performed at the Silver Moon Club in Newport.

That’s about it. Hopefully someone out there is looking for this bill and I can unite them with this.

19460801 $10 bill found at work

Found this bill a few weeks ago. Found some interesting things about this day in history. If this bill is read as August 1st 1946 then:

Atomic Energy Act: President Truman signed the act, which created the Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) and transferred atomic energy control from military to civilian hands.

Battle of Athens (Tennessee): Returning WWII veterans, frustrated by a corrupt political machine, stormed the McMinn County jail to reclaim ballot boxes, seizing control of the local government by August 2.

If it’s read as January 8th 1946 then:

Elvis Presley's First Guitar: Gladys Presley bought her son an acoustic guitar at Tupelo Hardware in Mississippi for his 11th birthday, setting the stage for his music career.

Emperor Hirohito Renounces Divinity: As part of the post-WWII reorganization of Japan, Emperor Hirohito broadcast the "Humanity Declaration" (Ningen-sengen), stating he was not a living god.

Finally was able to give these to my grandpa the other day. I had found the $5 while I was working a few months ago. I had to ask my mom if his birthday was November 3rd 1940 or November 5th 1940. I figured it was November 5th 1940 but was really hoping it was the 3rd. Sure enough it was the 5th. Was like dang it but still figured he would like it a lot since he used to be a banker. I posted the $5 on the r/birthdaynotes subreddit and someone said “now what if you could have the correct birthday” and had a link down below. The link was for a $2 bill that’s now posted in this post. Told my parents about it and they bought it right away. My grandpa had a tradition for every Christmas and every birthday that every one of his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids (which he has a lot) would be given a $2 bill along with their gift. So lucky that the person commented that on my post because he really loved both of these bills. Would’ve liked to have given it to him on his birthday but he’s really starting to get up there in age now. Didn’t want to risk him potentially missing this gift that I knew he would really love.

These are my four most prized serial number bills that I’ve found while at work. Definitely have gotten very lucky with what I’ve found within just the past 7ish months now. Makes me wonder what bills I had possibly missed out in within the past 7 years of not looking. Glad to have discovered serial number collecting. It gives me something to do while bored at my job.
