I have the MPRE Willies because it felt trickier than I thought it would be.

I took the MPRE this month and funny enough, I have more concern for that test than the actual bar. Mind you, I took the bar for the first time in May (next gen). I was so gassed that I could only muster enough energy to study a week for the MPRE. I used themis’ free program to do it. There were a lot of problems that I did and reexamining the rules and explanations of the ones that I did wrong. But when I took the actual MPRE it was a lot trickier than I anticipated it would be. I knew that it was supposed to be “easier” than the actual bar but it seemed like the questions on the MPRE seemed even more random and different than what I practiced while studying. I had a different experience than when I actually took the bar.

The kind of person that I am, I manifest and believe that I passed the MPRE. I have also seen others on here tout that they have passed with even less studying than I did to pass the MPRE. My juris. requires a score of 85. However, my final marks that I did for the Themis program were less than what I had hoped for before entering the MPRE.

Also, I have seen people on here say that the MPRE prep with Themis was super easy and straightforward. Am I an idiot because I thought the themis questions were somewhat tricky (others were still easy though)? I don’t know what I’m asking for rn, but let me know if anyone else in here has felt the same and experienced similar.

How Do New Lawyers Legitimately Find Jobs? *Struggling in the Corner Here

Hello all,

I'm a recent grad who took the July 2026 bar and the MPRE (awaiting results). I have been using Indeed and LinkedIn to apply for jobs so far. It seems like all the jobs require a few years experience as a "Junior" or "Associate" attorney, which is tough because I don't have that at this point in time. I'm relying on the collective wisdom in here to offer some advice as to how I can actually find employment for people who are willing to hire newer lawyers like myself.

Aside from that I want to enter the entertainment industry (for books and or music), which is already pretty niche. So, if anyone else has advice on networking or breaking into niche industries, that is welcome as well. I'm a transactional guy to my absolute core though. I really hope this post reaches the right person. If you would like to chat privately, that's okay with me as well. Thank you so much!!

Does Anyone Have Experience w/ the Washington Area Lawyers for the Arts (WALA)?

Hello all,

I have recently taken the bar and the MPRE and I'm waiting on my results. I would like to pursue a career within entertainment law (specifically copyright law). I went to a school well known for its IP program(s) and have interned at a firm that specializes in entertainment matters within the DMV area. The firm did work under WALA pro bono and it seemed like an appropriate way to break into the industry. I would like to do work within music or book publishing.

I have struggled to find employment for a new lawyer that wants to work within the entertainment industry and have decided to find means of networking. Is WALA a good place to get a membership and try for it? I've seen the events they have and it seems more geared toward helping out small businesses and sole practitioners with their entertainment practice. Also, all of the remaining events for this year are online seminars. Is it worth investing the money to join for the year?

Does anyone have experience in this matter? Would anyone else recommend another way to network to break into the field and eventually get a job? Please let me know. We can converse privately as well if you'd like. Thank you so much!

Next Gen Drafting Questions are Working my Nerves

During my time in law school, I rarely had any classes that required me to draft writing materials from scratch. This includes interrogatories, complaints, etc. So with the next gen asking us to draft and revise these materials, I feel like I’m at a disadvantage with it. Does anyone else feel the same? I recently did an integrated question set that relied on FRCP 10(b) (which was provided in the text) but the model answers for revisions were COMPLETELY different from what my answers were. I think it mostly stemmed from understanding the language that referred to specific parts of the complaint that I was supposed to revise. I got confused between what the actual claims are in the complaint v. what counted as not. Also, I didn’t realize that you could separate claims into their own headings if they were bunched up together. The average score on this was 70%!!!

Besides that, there were some really obscure corrections that were in the model answers that I personally believe would have been hard for anyone to catch. There’s no way that the average was 70% on that.

Does anyone else feel the same as I do? I feel like the other subjects are understandable to a point, but drafting certain writing materials feels more akin to someone who went out of their way to learn how to draft them because they want to litigate in the future. For reference, I want to do transactional work.

Themis Next Gen Bar Graded Assignment Anxiety

I recently received my grade for the graded assignment for the Powell performance task. My grade in this performance task was the exact same as the one before it. I’m super frustrated at this point that I’ll never get to at least 16 or 18 out of 24 before the exam. My feedback had mentioned that I didn’t do a case illustration for a certain case in the library. However, I mentioned the case later in my answer in a parenthetical citation.

Are parenthetical citations not enough as a case illustration? Because if you take away a couple words at the beginning of my parenthetical citation, it would’ve been fine as a case illustration in the traditional sense. Also, the amount of time we get to do the entire performance task kind of makes it hard to include all the relevant rules and to also make sure that the answer I type makes sense at the same time.

My main concern is that with each performance task being so different from each other I won’t be able to actually get “better” since all of the performance tasks are different from each other.

Also reading the model answers feels like I’m supposed to read their mind. I understand that the model answers are examples of what should be included. However, sometimes the model answers use caselaw in a way that I wouldn’t have used it. Other times the model answers don’t even use the non-legal documents that are given to you in the case file.
