Are these sapling likely to fail to thrive?

River birch with leaf spot. Swamp white oak with prune at base. I doubt these issues are dooming, but i bought them online and am disappointed in their quality. I usually buy locally, but needed smaller specimens which were not available. Would raising a stink be justified or will these be fine if planted well?

This mess of roots looks bad. Can I remedy the situation.

This clump of river birches have some gnarly roots on one side. I got some advice earlier in the week about pruning the one crossing the trunk, but while clearing soil for that cut i found more intertwined roots deeper down.

Do these all need to be addressed? Should it be spaced out over time? What is the best thing to do?

The roots are all under 2 inches but some are over 1".

Tree is starting to leaf out. Zone 5b central ny.

How severe are the crossing roots on my Clump river birch?

I planted this container river birch 4 years ago. A four sapling clump. I did some root pruning and loosening at the time but didnt know what i was doing. I'm thinking i will need to prune some of the crossing/girdling roots. I would appreciate your educated feedback.
