During my ride today I got a message on my Garmin Edge 1050 saying ‘battery critical’ on my power meter. So I pull out my phone, pull up the SRAM app on my phone, and sure enough it also says the battery is dead. At this point the power meter also disconnects from my Garmin.

So I continue my ride, and after a few minutes the PM reconnects to my computer.

I finish my ride after about another hour, fire up the SRAM app again, and now it says the battery is good.

The cranks/power meter are only a couple months old, and this issue has been happening off and on since the beginning.

Because this has been happening off and on, I also recorded the ride on my Garmin Fenix 8 watch just to verify it’s not a problem with my Garmin Edge. The dropouts and reconnects match exactly on both devices, so whatever this issue is it’s definitely the power meter.

I guess it could be the battery, but this battery isn’t very old, and it would be strange given that it started working again after a few minutes, and post ride the SRAM app now said the battery is good. Also note, not a childproof battery with the coating. Could be the battery contacts, but they seem good. This isn’t even the original battery, because I replaced it when this first started a couple weeks after I got the cranks/PM.

Lastly, I’m using ANT+, so it shouldn’t be a BT issue.

Before I contact SRAM, I just wanted to see if anyone else has had similar issues.

I have a spider-based power meter on my SRAM Red cranks. I pair that to Zwift and my Garmin Edge. When I dual record a ride with my Edge and Zwift, the resulting average wattage post-ride is roughly about 6 watts lower according to Garmin compared to Zwift. A watt here or there wouldn’t be surprising, but considering they’re using the exact same data source, any idea why? And more importantly, any idea which is correct?

I generally trust Duracell 2032 batteries, but I hear rumors that batteries with that childproof coating don’t work well with Quarq power meters. Can anyone confirm or deny this with their own experience? Duracell apparently only sells coated batteries now. If not Duracell, then what? I’ve seen some Panasonic uncoated batteries.

Did your Grail come with the ‘snake’ bag that goes in the downtube storage compartment? I’ve seen some people say yes, and some sources say no. I just ordered a CFR AXS, and I’m not sure if I need to order that bag separately.

I rode outside today and yesterday, but I only got credit for today. Anyone else? And I know it synced because it shows in the Companion App.

I have my Garmin set to sync my outdoor rides with Zwift. Today my outdoor ride gave me enough XP to move up to level 35 in Zwift, which it did. But no new jersey, or gloves or anything. It seems that while it may help you level up (very slowly), there are no other benefits to keeping your Zwift subscription active during the warmer months. No swag like jerseys, glasses, shoes, etc. And no drops, so it doesn’t help you buy virtual items either. So what’s the point in paying to keep your subscription active?
