Opinions on Kyiv helmet

First of, I like the helmet's look despite its goofiness. I am more so asking about the comfortability and how well it does at protection. To my understanding, it being a half helmet, for buhurt the lower half has steel plates hanging off of the helmet? And front would be a steel cage just like any other nasal. I am tempted to buy a "English cross" bascinet instead just for the added benefit of it being a full size helmet.

Wool vs Cotton padding for gambeson?

Im making my own gambeson, for the padding Im not too sure what the advantages cotton vs wool batting have over each other. Also how many layers of wadding are usually used? I dont want to overheat, but would still like to have enough padding. I understand it depends on what type of armour id be wearing, at this rate Ill most likely start with a brigandine. I live in New Zealand so have a tropical climate.
