Glider / Metro Etiquette

On Monday, I was in Belfast and needed to get to Lanyon Place.

I was running late and decided to hop onto a Metro bus at the City Hall to take me round to Lanyon.

The first problem was, I had no idea of what bus to catch and had to ask one of the waiting drivers. Of course, I've discovered the Translink app does help guide you to the correct bus stop and service. If I didn't have access to a smartphone, I'd have no idea of what service to catch and from where.

On the bus as it was turning onto East Bridge Street, I hit the button to request the bus to stop. However, there were already people waiting at that stop.

Here's the problem - I assume I was meant to get off using the middle door? As I'd hit the button, I thought that the door would open - it did not! In my panic I had to push past people alighting at the forward door to get off - I'm sure they hated me.

Is there a special button to open the middle door?

Translink with a doggo

Yesterday, I used my 60+ Smartpass for the first time and went to Portrush with my dog Cleo.

That included two changes at Lanyon and Coleraine.

Absolutely no issue bringing a dog onboard, and everyone loved her.

The plan was to keep her at my feet, but there's not much room for legs and the dog. She was insistent about standing in the aisle watching everything that was going on and getting random cuddles.

On the return trip I decided to sit on the pull down seating in the cycle area, and that was more manageable.

I plan to make more trips over the next few months.

For those with Android phones you can change how your phone accesses the internet and block ads on loads of websites.

By changing your DNS address to:

dns.adguard-dns.com

It will block ads on many websites.

However, it doesn't block ads on YouTube.

Go to your 'Private DNS' setting and change it to 'Private DNS provider hostname' and enter the address above.

Note - this is a repost as I'd used the old server address in the first post.

▲ 3 r/Adobe

For a while I've been struggling with both Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom not closing down properly. Despite it looking like they were closed, they were still running in the background of W11.

After some research I've discovered that it's Proton VPN that prevents them from closing.

Obviously Adobe loves to talk to their servers on a regular basis, and when they can't chat the programs don't like it.

Every time I use the software with the VPN running, it stays running in the background.

However, I did discover that it's actually the Netshield feature (that blocks ads and trackers) that's causing the issue. With Netshield turned off, the software behaves normally.

I did try and exclude both Photoshop and Lightroom using Split Tunneling, but it didn't work.
