I just don’t understand why everyone says you need so much money to live in NYC (like 80K+) yet there are many areas full of service workers. Are we just completely ignoring those areas? Are we speaking about a quality of life that isn’t normal for most Americans? I can’t imagine that everyone is NYC is making tons of money and I also can’t imagine that everyone who isn’t are just living miserable lives so what’s going on?

I’m feeling very disconnected from the city and just need to hear experiences from those who left. I’ve never been outside the south so the idea of leaving is a daunting one but I feel so ready to get out of here.

I’ve been really interested in making a NYC move and while I’m not particularly wealthy or connected I feel extremely isolated and out of touch with the culture of my city (Atlanta) which is extremely car oriented and classist in many ways. I’d like to know what makes NYC different from a cultural point of view and if I’d really fit in better there as a young person with little to no generational wealth. I don’t and have never had a vehicle or license and wasn’t able to finish school because I receive no support from my family so I’d be coming into the city with little to no connections and working to build my way up.

I left my house over an hour before work and still haven’t gotten there. I waited at Inman Park for nearly an hour because of a trespasser and when I get to the next station to catch the 2 bus the bus completely skips the station. People keep telling me to contact MARTA support which I have been since 2023 when I came back to this city from college and even since then it’s been delay after delay threatening my job status. I even moved to a more walkable neighborhood (Reynoldstown) and my commutes have not improved. The state of this transit system is completely unacceptable and there’s no form of accountability for the people responsible. No one at this organization is serious about solving the issue and it’s gotten to the point where I’m planning to move away from the city entirely.
