Solution for sediment filter that gets clogged quickly?

We have well water. The picture is where it enters our basement, the ~6 month old pressure tank and a sediment filter. We've lived in the house for two years. During that time, we've realized that if we use a lot of water (running the hose for a while, a series of long showers, etc.) then the pressure in the entire house decreases.

If we flush the sediment filter (I just hold a bucket under it and open up the valve at the bottom for about ~5-8 buckets of water), then the pressure will come back. It seems we're doing this pretty frequently, especially over the summer months when we're using the hoses outside more often. We have no idea how old that filter is.

Is it normal to get reduced pressure and need to flush a filter like this? Should we replace it with a newer, bigger, better one? Is this an indication that our well pump is pulling up too much sediment?

Thanks!
