So I can't understand how the final dates got decided upon.

Were WY and JH's final dates decided for them based on who SH chose? Was this just a forced way from the showrunners to ensure everyone had a final date? If so what a mangled way to do it.

I had to rewatch the latter half of the episode and I still don't fully understand why it played out that way. What was the point of having the girls writer letters "secretly" and having the guys choose based on the letter if 3 of the guys literally had no choice?

Or am I misunderstanding how it worked, did JH choose SY cause he wanted to not because that is who he was left with?
