My fourth season doing this, I made a spreadsheet people can use as a reference to see who is best on each map relative to their usual win percentage. The datapool I used is "all ranks" of competitive on console, since that's what I play and the all ranks gives a bigger sample size, but the relative effect of each hero shouldn't differ too greatly from console or PC.
I personally use it before every match, I've been picking my least played hero for over 1000 comp matches since the S1 reset last season and find limiting heroes to a small map pool (each hero only plays on about 3 maps, e.g. Pharah just on Lijiang, Ilios, Eichenwalde; Soldier on Queen St., Runasapi, Esperanca) helps me focus on using the heroes in ways that are geometrically advantageous for just them more than any other hero. I know if I'm on a good Anran map there's going to be a healthpack near every engagement that I can escape to.
I think the most exciting part is the first week of a new season with a new hero or map to see what Shion is going to be good at, and I'll be updating this spreadsheet about a week in to the season so you can figure out when to use her quickly.
