TX- apartment saying I must keep my electricity on two months after I move out.
I’ve been living at this particular apartment complex for two years- the last couple of months have been kind of brain melting, and I unexpectedly have to move to a new city.
My lease ends on my contract on June 9. Due to unexpectedly having to move and just everything that was going on- I DID NOT GIVE NOTICE TO MY CURRENT COMPLEX. This is a super important detail that I feel could change the outcome of this situation. I went to ask my front office with the prorated rent for June would be- and they told me I have to keep my electricity on for two months. They did not strictly state that it was because I didn’t give notice- they said I had to keep it on “in case I came back”. I have to move to a different city and I feel really uncomfortable about leaving electricity running in an apartment under my name that I no longer live in or am legally liable for. Is this something I actually have to do?
