The Outrunners

The Outrunners

What’s up people

I wanted to talk a bit about The OutRunners, now that some time has passed since it dropped. Mixtape, album, whatever you wanna call it.

In my opinion, it’s honestly one of Curren$y’s strongest projects from the 2020s, or at least from the last few years. It has such a clear personality. To me, this is maybe the moment where that whole yacht rap / luxury cinematic Spitta x Harry Fraud sound reached its highest point. The vibes are immaculate, seriously.

From the beats, to Spitta’s voice and tone, to the features, everything feels locked in. Rick Ross, Jim Jones, Wiz, Conway… all of them fit the world of the project perfectly. You can really feel that both Curren$y and Harry Fraud cared about making this one feel like a proper body of work, not just another quick drop. And I think it shows.

I don’t know if you guys have as much love for this project as I do, but for me it’s kind of special. I remember it was the first Curren$y project that dropped when I was starting to really get into his music. I was around 18 at the time, so I didn’t really live through the Blog Era properly, and being from Spain made that whole context even further away from me.

But I have great memories of listening to this album in the summer, burning an infinite amount of weed while it played. Is there nostalgia involved? Yeah, probably. But even putting nostalgia aside, when I compare it to some of his more recent projects with Harry Fraud, I feel like The OutRunners has really solidified itself as something important in his catalogue.

And then the continuation with The Director’s Cut and the bonus stuff made that whole era even more interesting.

How do you guys see it now? Do you think it aged well? Where would you rank it among Curren$y and Harry Fraud projects?
