Lost Most of My Coding Skills While Working at a Startup. Stay or Leave?

2026 graduate here.

I joined a startup during my 7th semester. Initially, I was doing software development, but since January I've mostly been handling non-technical responsibilities.

The problem is that I feel I've lost a lot of my technical skills due to the lack of hands-on coding. On paper, my resume looks strong and I can show Software Engineer experience, but in reality I don't feel confident in my technical abilities anymore. I don't think I could build an API from scratch today without heavily relying on AI tools.

On the positive side, I've gained experience in stakeholder management, project coordination, client communication, and team management.

I'm stuck between two options:

1. Stay at the startup, keep the experience on my resume, and upskill alongside work.
2. Leave and join a placement-guarantee institute/bootcamp to rebuild my technical skills and prepare for software engineering roles.

The startup is also struggling financially, technical mentorship has become limited, and I'm finding it increasingly difficult to dedicate consistent time to upskilling after work.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? Would you recommend staying employed and upskilling, or leaving to focus full-time on becoming technically strong again?

I joined a internship back in september 2025, started as a software dev intern but slowly got transitioned in project coordinator, i still did good managing the project development, team and founder coordination, but lately i am told to do personal tasks of founder that has nothing to do with my job. I have been actively applying for jobs. Anyone here wh can help please let me know if any opening exists.
