New Customer Experience

I've seen a few posts about new customers complaining that the port in process was rough. I just wanted to quickly share my experience porting into Cape.

In short, it was as smooth as with any major carrier (and depending on your carrier, it was a smoother experience).

I switched from US Mobile to Cape and I had my number back up and usable within 30 minutes. I doubt it matters, but I am on Android / Pixel 10.

Service has been great and speeds are comparable to US Mobile and major carriers from my experience. I'd highly recommend that any privacy conscious person switch to Cape to help fund the project and keep your privacy private.

Privacy focused wearable

I made the switch from iOS to Android (w/ GrapheneOS) where I used the Ultra 3 as my watch. It had okay battery life, all my health data was stored locally, and it was essentially indestructible. Now that I made the switch to GrapheneOS, I have been struggling to find a watch that accomplishes what the AWU3 does for that price range.

Sure, Garmin has their $1,100+ watches that you can pair with GadgetBridge to get pretty darn close to what Apple offers, but the watches are significantly more expensive and have all these features that don’t really appeal to me. I can’t bring myself to spend that much on a smart watch. I just want something that tracks sleep, heart data, occasional workout, and doesn’t scratch when a feather lands on it.

Then there is Amazfit, budget and works well with GadgetBridge so everything is stored locally. But their offerings lack that premium feel. They are durable though. I have only tried their Balance line, maybe their higher tier watches meet my needs.

What are you all using that stores data locally for around the $400-800 range and have sapphire glass / titanium body?

Issues with Spectrum requiring us to use their equipment for static IPs

For those that manage networks and use Spectrum as their ISP, are you also running into issues where sites that are coax only are required to use Spectrum’s router (their router/AP combo) in order to get static IPs?

We are transitioning from their dedicated circuit due to the insane pricing to DIA, and we are being told we have to have both their modem (makes sense) and their crappy router/ap combo in line for static IPs to work.

I haven’t had much time to play with MAC address spoofing to see if we can get static IPs to work without their router, but has anyone tried it and had success? In theory it should work. Is there anything we can do to set up static IPs without their router?

Is it possible to send CLI commands to a device via Meshtastic?

I am looking to set up out of band management for our network infrastructure and was wondering if LoRa/Meshtastic would be a good fit.

It would have to give us some sort of interface to send commands to our networking equipment via a RJ45 console port and we would need to be able to receive the command output.

Is this a feasible use case even if it requires some modification to software to make it work? Has anyone tried this and had success?
