Please address these articles? Another call for a 3rd party audit.

I was very close to signing up but while doing my due diligence I found a number of articles on medium speaking ill of capes security. I was hoping a cape employee could address them. I’d also like to voice my opinion on the importance of a 3rd party audit. I don’t trust any company for its word alone in this day and age. The palantir association of the cape C suite doesn’t inspire confidence as you know in this community.

Sam Brice makes a number of claims in his numerous articles about his cape experience.

"Permanent" International Roaming

What happens if a US subscriber travels internationally for longer than 30 days using the service? What is considered 30 consecutive days? Calls? Texts? Data? If you turn the service off for a day every 29 days does that satisfy requirements?

  • Get $20 off your monthly service for life with Cape Referral 8CWH2RD8.

Why no direct APK download?

Hey Cape team. Why don't you put the APK on your website so we can download it straight. Downloading through the Play store seems rather counter intuitive to privacy.

Also the alternative store for graphene seems unnecessary. Just put the apk on your website!

Countries of operation

Is this purely US based atm? I see roaming countries list with 5gb data/voice/iphone/Android...

If so when are you expecting global roll out and what countries are involved?

Is the app open source?

Being a privacy-first service, I would expect the app to be open source so we can verify that features within the app are privacy respecting and that the app doesn't have any major security vulnerabilities. I looked around the internet for a bit but was unable to find any source code related to the Cape app.

Voicemail Strategy

Just some feedback on voicemail:

• The voicemail prompt recording seems to be very low fidelity, it sounds like a tape recorder recording, can that be updated? It sounds sketchy. So much so I keep getting texts asking me if my phone has been redirected to some illegitimate service.

• The verbiage of the recording sounds a little silly. I don’t mind it says ”the Cape subscriber“ but the ending with it being encrypted has been off putting to people leaving me voicemails. they’ve all asked about it. I am not really sure I want people to know I’m using Cape or about the encryption. It would be better if it had a more generic message with an American accent, to be more professional.

• I know some people have a must have use case for voicemail encryption, but for many we’d prefer to use iOS visual voicemail. I’d love if we had the option to use standard voicemail integrated with our phones.

• The Cape app has to be open to get a notice that a voicemail has been delivered. It would be better if that pushed to the app even if it’s not open.

iPhone <> Cape Cellular

I am very much interested in Cape Cellular I do have a few questions before I take the plunge

- will I be able to normally text , photos, FaceTime etc or will
I need to use to the app to text (if I’m using my main number)?
- will I be able to signal the same way as normal?

Thank you!

Recognizing Our Early Adopters

Hi everyone,

I wanted to make sure everyone here was aware of the current “Early Adopter” pricing Cape is offering. For those who sign up before the end of the year, they’ve discounted the lifetime rate to $70/month.

While the standard $99/month is already a fair price for the features, locking in the $70 rate is a pretty significant value—especially since it’s for the life of the account.

A few key points about Cape:

  • Privacy-First: They don’t have access to your data, so they can’t sell it (unlike many cheaper carriers that use data mining to subsidize their costs).
  • Feature Set: You’re getting the full suite of security features plus:
  • Unlimited Talk and Text
  • Unlimited 5G and 4G data
  • Two Secondary Numbers
  • Included 5 GB/month of Secure Global Roaming
  • 30GB of premium mobile hotspot per month.

Cape has adopted a philosophy of “Don’t Trust Us” and is very transparent about how they handle your data. If you are considering signing up, now is a great opportunity to test it out.

Massive bloat of unwanted app installations

Today I decided to try and finally switch over to Cape. I have been a bit skeptical of switching, but I am still looking for a privacy-centered phone service. However, after getting the application set up and installed on my phone, things seem to be working. I was able to use the Cape app to send messages with my secondary phone number and still send messages with my primary number. However, shortly after, I noticed that my apps on my phone were beginning to move around, and then with some scrolling, I noticed that I had a number of apps around two gigabytes worth of data being continually installed and re-installed after I uninstalled them. These apps included things such as Teamoo, a news app, Facebook, TikTok, and a couple other applications that I'm unsure of what they were. I was finally able to turn on airplane mode and cut my Wi-Fi, get everything uninstalled, and force quit the app installer. But I then was very skeptical about what was going on and immediately removed the e-sim from my phone, which has let me in a bit of a bite. Has anyone else had these sorts of issues? Is this a privacy concern or is this a bug within the app?

Any tools to check performance before joining?

I'm considering switching, but I'd like to confirm its performance and data speeds in my area before signing up. Is there a tool or app available that can deliver this?

I built a site to track real Cape network speeds by location

There's currently no reliable way to test how fast Cape works in your area, especially since Cape no longer discloses the network providers they work with. So I built cape.rip/speeds -- a community-sourced pool of network speed data organized by location and device type. Speed reports are gated to Cape ASNs only, so all the data comes from actual Cape subscribers.

Huge shoutout to u/no1mann and https://coveragemap.com for providing me with verified seed data to use on the site. We're starting out with ~330 real speed reports, with more to come from users!

It's still a work in progress, so I'd love to hear any feedback!

Curious about how Cape compares to other providers?

I recently built a free tool to compare Cape's phone plan against other popular carriers. It pulls current pricing and accounts for referrals, family plan discounts, and the features each provider actually includes.

If you're thinking about switching and want a quick breakdown of what you'd be getting vs your current plan, check it out: https://cape.rip/compare

Open to feedback!

Welcome New Adopters - Great in ATX

I recently switched over to Cape Mobile and wanted to share my experience so far for anyone curious about it.

Overall, I’m really enjoying the service. The setup was super easy and way smoother than I expected. Porting my number only took a couple of minutes, and I was basically done with everything within minutes. No long waiting, no confusing steps, and no issues getting activated.

One thing I really liked is that the signup felt very minimal. In the app, I didn’t have to give a bunch of personal information, just my payment info. From what I saw, if you sign up through the website, you do have to provide an email, but the app setup felt more privacy-focused and simple.

I’m using it on iPhone, and iMessage and FaceTime are both working with no problems. That was one of the things I was a little worried about before switching, but everything registered correctly and has been working like normal.

Speed has been decent so far. I wouldn’t say it’s the absolute fastest mobile service I’ve ever used, but I haven’t had any issues with the things I actually use every day. Streaming has worked fine, maps/navigation have worked fine, and regular browsing/messages/calls have all been solid.

The biggest thing for me is that the service feels simple and clean. It does what I need it to do, and the privacy-focused approach is what made me want to try it in the first place.

So far, I’m happy with the switch and I’m planning to keep using it. Switching my whole family soon.
