PICC lines

I was practicing reconstituting antibiotics and one of my facilitators asked me to research why PICC lines are flushed with 20 ml saline instead of 10 ml saline flush. Does anyone know why?

Aged care interview questions

Hi all, I'm preparing for PMCV interviews. Majority of the programs I selected are in aged care, and one is just general stream. If you work in aged care or have done an interview for an aged care position, what are some questions that you've been asked, or what can I expect ?

To whoevers car I witnessed get hit tonight

Walking to the car after dinner tonight and witnessed someone hit a car and drive away. If you have a small dark grey car, looks to be a 2012 Toyota Yaris, and parked on Moorabool street tonight someone driving a small blue car hit your back tire on the right side. There are scratches and part of the tire detached from the rim. Some other people witnessed it, I think someone else also took a picture.I got their number plate and will report to the non emergency line. If you see this dm me and I'll tell you the person's number plate. I hope you can get your car fixed!

Skills to put on resume

I'm fixing up my resume for GNP applications and was wondering which skills to put on my resume that would be the most relevant and eye catching. There's so much you can add in the skills section but with the limited space its hard to narrow it down to a few.

Claiming things on tax as a student

Can you claim anything on tax as student nurse or can you only do that once you're registered? I need to get a new stethoscope since I lost mine a couple months ago but since its not directly related to me earning an income can I still claim it?

Knox Private Hospital

I just got assigned a placement at knox private hospital like 5 minutes ago. It's acute and starts in August. I get really anxious and want to prepare as best as possible. I try to find out what the hospital is like so I can mentally prepare myself. Has anyone done a placement there? What ward? What is it like?

Returning invalid myki

So i got a regular myki from a 7 11 store last week since I didnt want to risk copping a fine for using a concession myki when im no longer a full time student. Anyways the myki is invalid, it doesn't register and doesn't allow me to top up. Will they refund the money I spent on the card or do I just call up my bank and say that they gave me a card that doesn't work and I want to get my money back?

Expectations for placement

I've seen quiet a few posts on this subreddit of people complaining about the quality of students coming in for placement. I'm in my final year and want to be as prepared as possible for my upcoming placement. I know my biggest problem is being able to take initiative and its feedback I've gotten enough to know that I need to work on.

What are your expectations of students specifically on a 3rd year level for when they come onto placement? What do you expect them to know/ be comfortable with doing ?

Contacting buddy nurses to be referees

Hi all, I'm just wondering if it would be inappropriate to call/text my buddy nurse and ask them to be my referee. The thing is these details were provided to me a year ago and unfortunately I failed that placement but that was after my last shift with my main buddy. I sent an email to her on both emails she provided me and haven't heard back yet. If she doesn't reply by Monday next week I'm thinking of messaging her but I'm worried its going to come off as inappropriate or weird. PMCV closes in two weeks and I really need my two referees.

Should I send her a text if she doesn't reply by next week? What can I do?

Placement at northern health, epping

I have an upcoming community placement at Northern Health and was wondering what placement is like over there. I've heard that they're pretty strict and the nurses aren't really that nice .

Has anyone done placement there or works there and can let me know what its like so I can prepare as best as possible. What can I expect from the clinical educators in terms of the knowledge they would expect me to have as a 3rd year.

Any tips/ advice is greatly appreciated!

Community placement at NH

Hi all. So I'm a third year student and just got assigned a community placement at northern health, which I start at the end of July . I did fail a placement last year so I want to be prepared the best I can because I've heard that Northern is very strict and they've sent a lot of students home.

What skills should I have/ work on that I'll see during the duration of my placement? What knowledge is expected on a 3rd year level? What kind of things will I see/ experience? What are the shifts like?

Any advice and tips would be appreciated! :)
