My upstairs neighbor’s 2am moving schedule has been ruining my sleep
I don’t know what lease clause says “rearrange furniture only after midnight” but my upstairs neighbor has clearly read it. It’s not even a party, which somehow makes it more annoying because there’s nothing obvious to point at. No yelling, no TV blasting, no drunk people in the hallway. Just footsteps, chair dragging, one heavy thud, silence for exactly long enough that my body relaxes, then another long scrape across the ceiling like someone is slowly moving a dresser with their knees. I rent, so I’m trying very hard not to become That Tenant who sends dramatic emails to management over “normal living sounds,” but also I have a job and a nervous system and I’m starting to hate bedtime. Foam earplugs block some of it but my ears feel sore by 4am, and if I push them in deep enough to work, I wake up feeling like I slept in a submarine. Brown noise helps with traffic and hallway doors but not the impact sounds from above. I’ve been comparing Soundcore and Ozlo because I need something actually made for side sleeping, not giant ANC headphones that make me feel like I’m directing aircraft from my pillow. What I’m trying to figure out is whether sleep earbuds can take the sharp edge off apartment noise, especially footsteps and furniture dragging, or if low-frequency thuds just go straight through your skull no matter what.
Has anyone here used either in a rental with upstairs neighbors? Not asking for perfect silence. I just want to stop waking up like someone dropped a bowling ball directly into my REM cycle.
