How do local gigging musicians feel about the Protect Working Musicians Act? (Grassroots push)
Hey everyone,
I’m working with a grassroots effort to help gather support for the Protect Working Musicians Act.
If you haven't heard of it, the Act is aimed at giving independent and gigging music creators the legal leverage to negotiate fairer streaming royalty splits, get stronger protections against generative AI misuse, and establish better collective bargaining power. Essentially, it's trying to tackle how hard it's become to make a living off music.
We are trying to collect signatures from real, willing US citizens to show widespread support, and a huge chunk of the momentum is already coming from right here in New York.
If you're an independent artist, a session musician, or part of the scene here and want to see better economic protections for music laborers, please consider checking out the petition and adding your name:

Also, curious to hear your thoughts—how do you all feel about current streaming payouts or the general state of gig pay in the city right now?
Appreciate your time!
