NYC Looking to make/join a indie dream pop band

Hey I’m Jade, I'm a 30F artist/graphic designer currently living in LIC in New York and I’m looking to make some indie dream pop. I am a vocalist and songwriter.

My influences include Men I trust, Crumb, Hiatus Kaiyote, Mac Demarco, and Spirit Blue. I want to jam and make some great music with friends, goal is to eventually do a few gigs at local bars or cafes (who knows how far we can go). I'm currently working on music with a friend but would be great to have a group set up to work on a more regular basis as well. Ideally, the sound I'm looking to make is very similar to the influences I mentioned (soft vocals, muted 70s drums, groovy bass lines, etc)

I’m willing to travel if you have a rehearsal space (depends on how far you are.) I also have a humble set up at my place (guitar amp, bass guitar, bass amp, full mic set up, keyboard, just no drum set unfortunately) if that works better.

Feel free to message me privately, or shoot me a message on ig "@lu.cha.biao"

Here’s an example of some of my work (some are just drafts): https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1CBeCYG6O3UhjbtNc8er-j_sVGi1jsevB?usp=sharing

Performing in Nashville on 8/13 for my first tour... anyone interested in coming out?

Hey guys! I'm Preston and I make indie/rock music. I'm heading out on my first ever DIY tour next next month and Nashville will be the first band show (8/13). I figured I'd finally get on Reddit and say hi since I've heard nothing but good things about the scene! I'm a little nervous posting this, it's actually my first time using Reddit for anything promotional lol, but I'd genuinely love to meet you guys if you're around. Show's at The East Room and music kicks off at 8pm.

If you grab a ticket ahead of time, I'll hook you up with a free signed polaroid when you come through. Hope to see you all there! :)

NYC Luthier recommendations

I have a 1976 Ibanez Concord acoustic guitar with some bridge damage that I’m looking to have repaired. It’s a family heirloom, so I want to make sure I’m bringing it to someone who has experience with vintage acoustics and restoration, not just a general guitar tech.

I’m looking for someone who will take the time to assess the overall structural condition of the guitar and preserve as much of the original instrument as possible.

If you’ve personally used a luthier in NYC who you would trust with a sentimental/vintage guitar like this, I’d really appreciate your recommendations!

Guitarist Wanted for Alt Rock Band

Hi I'm Chris, I sing and play guitar in misc. a brooklyn slacker/indie/alt rock band. Reference points: The Strokes, Geese, Bob Dylan, Radiohead, MJ Lenderman, Pavement, Charli XCX.

We're adding another guitar player so I can put more into singing and actually front the band instead of splitting my attention. Ideally someone comfortable moving between lead lines and rhythm.

We have a couple shows booked in the coming months (including our first on Aug 29) so we'll wanna get you "onboarded" pretty quick.

What we're after:

  • Weekly rehearsal with availability after 5p generally
  • Similar music taste/bringing you're own taste to songs
  • Our ages range from 19-25, looking for people close in age to us.
  • We're pretty serious in the sense of we're pushing ourselves to do this right. Alignment on that mindset is important.
  • But, at the end of the day this is all really just for fun. So biggest priority is to have a good time.

If you're interested, send links to you playing: videos, live clips, recordings, doesn't have to be polished and tell me what you've been listening to lately.

Here's our links:

Bassist with (at least backing) vox

Hi!

I'm in a great little garage punk indie band with a full set worth of songs ready for shows. We've recorded 3 songs and practice pretty much weekly in Brooklyn. Our bassist is leaving New York and we're looking for a cool, responsible, bassist - ideally someone who likes writing/co-writing, singing and contributing too; heart, dedication, and empathy. It's about having fun and being quirky but also loving songs.

We have a practice space in Brooklyn. We're older (30+). We're 9-5rs but love songwriting and shows and we're pretty dedicated. If you are a good person and really want to make a band work, let's see if we can make it work!

If you sing and play bass, let's talk!

Experienced guitarist/producer looking to jam and find a band (or start one)

Hi yall. I’m a guitarist / producer looking for ppl to jam and maybe join a band.

Who am I
- 29yr old dude. Guitarist of 15+ yrs & Producer for 4+ yrs. I can sing as well although I prefer to sing harmonies (hate memorizing lyrics!)
- I have been part of a local band in HTX called ‘Almost a Cow’ (https://open.spotify.com/artist/6UxLXVqsEzn5wPIK8KHMJP?si=AQdxr-KaSlq3i9LFTJrQxQ&utm_source=copy-link) where we had a good run. We played festivals, ton of local shows, and had good following.
- Huge fan of power pop / rock. But I enjoy all genres of music. My playing style resembles Nuno Bettencourt / Paul Gilbert the most (I’ve been told)

What I can do
- I’m a fairly proficient guitar player. I’ve had multiple recording & gigging experience.
- I can write & produce. I did that for all the songs by ‘Almost a Cow’. The more recent EPs that weren’t released, I recorded / mixed the band DIY at our private studio.
- Manage the band. I was the leader of the band. I’ve booked shows & festivals / put together shows, ran socials (not super well, just.. okay), promote, etc.. Not something I enjoy doing, but I’ll do it if I have to.

Best Local Bands to See?

Hello! I'm a musician moving to the city at the end of the month and I am EXTREMELY eager to dive into the local scene and go to shows.

I want to know: what are your favorite local bands? What band makes you think "wow this band should be bigger?"

Will pay someone $50 to tune my toms

I’ve been drumming for years, but have never quite figured out how to tune toms properly. I can get a pretty good result, but haven’t figured out how to make them sound great.

I’d love to pay someone to just do it really well, and show me what’s possible. Located in Bushwick off the DeKalb L.

Drummer needed for Brooklyn-based alt/indie/riot grrrl band!!!

When I woke up yesterday morning, I had a drummer. Though we are devastated by this loss, we're ready to get back out there. Here are the deets:

We are a (name pending) all female/queer group in our mid-late twenties.

We're pretty new! We haven't started gigging yet, though we want to soon and we are all pretty committed so we need someone who's ready to lock in. I started this band because I have many unused songs written that I want to workshop and put out there, so we're looking for someone who's ready to take creative liberty and collaborate. I sometimes have an idea of what I want the drums to sound like, but I have no idea how to communicate that so we need someone who is patient with pointless miming and all that.

We're going for an alt/indie and garagey/punk/riot grrrl sound - a mix of it all (my main inspo is Mannequin Pussy, for reference). I don't have control of what I write, however, and everything comes out indie. Be prepared.

(That's a big part of why I'm looking to workshop my stuff)

We meet on Tuesday nights! We have a rehearsal space in Gowanus that we use (it's a little under $45/month each) and it is absolutely lovely. There's a backyard, all the equipment we need ofc, and a break room - much better deal than we were getting at the last place. We meet around 7/7:30 usually, and we can stay as late as we like. We often hang out for a while too after practice, sometimes we like to grab a drink together, and we hang out outside of practice sometimes as well, so expect some invitations to parties/concerts/hangouts here and there, and please don't be afraid to do the same. You aren't just getting a band, but three cool sexy friends as well.

Due to negative experiences with straight men, we'd prefer to keep the band female/queer, but aren't totally closed off - as long as you're respectful!

I think that's everything. I can send you a shitty recording of us playing while I'm getting over a cold if you'd like a rough idea of what we sound like - or you can just come in blindly. If you have any questions or are interested, please please reach out to louisa.zerbo on Instagram! I don't use reddit much, though I'll probably check here over the next few days.

Songwriter/producer (lead vocals, guitar, bass) looking for one guitarist to build an alternative rock project inspired by early Bush, Linkin Park and most late 90s/early 2000s music. I already have demos.

Hey, I'm moving to Seattle the end of the month. Would love to collaborate with fellow Seattle musicians. (bass, lead guitar and drums.)

I'm 29, currently pursuing a degree in Music Technology.

Here's some of the music I produced, mixed and mastered.

https://youtu.be/wxrUP2u2NFs?si=ygZlkEgl-LCKdoM2

It's very DIY, but hope you like it.

At the moment because of my daily job, I'm just completely exhausted to keep doing 10 things at the same time (Write, arrange, produce, record, mix, master and etc) but just keep going out of passion. I would love to find people with the same mindset who could also contribute to the project. That way, we can release more consistently and focus on getting gigs to play out there.

Thank you so much!

New music from your neighbor

Hey there Astorians. It's your neighbor of nearly 15 years, Gray Market. I've got a new song out today. It's called MP Produce Corp. You might even be able to deduce where the photo on the cover art was taken. Hope you like it. Full album to follow on August 21. After that, maybe a live show somewhere in the neighborhood?

Hope you enjoy!

Looking to play solo shows in Brooklyn

Hello,

I'm a singer/songwriter looking to play some solo shows in Brooklyn. Would love to put together a bill of local bands, or just find a spot looking to book local indie performers. Unfortunately most venues I've been to (Trans-Pecos, Gold Sounds, Alphaville, etc) seem to require you already have a >20 people fanbase to be booked. I'm looking for something more low key. Maybe a casual bar to play some of my songs, a songwriters' night somewhere; possibly a venue more oriented toward solo acts? Also, if you're reading this and are a local band/act looking to fill a slot on a bill, let me know! I've linked my music and a recent music video below. Thanks!
