FOR HIRE: Recent Lit/Creative Writing Grad -- Editing & Proofreading (fiction, essays, etc.)

Heyyyy everyone, I need to make some extra money and also get some editing experience since I’m looking to enter the publishing industry/want to build my portfolio. Here’s some info about me:

I graduated from The New School in December 2025 with a degree in Literature and Creative Fiction Writing, in high academic standing (if I do say so myself). I was accepted post-grad into an advanced fiction workshop through Sackett Street Writers’ Workshop, which was a lovely experience.

I recently finished up an internship at Zando, an independent publisher, which confirmed my love for editorial work. I truly, truly enjoy workshopping, critiquing, literary analysis — anything involving reading and writing about what I’ve read.

I’ve stayed in contact with classmates from my program and workshop, and in my free time I edit their fiction — both line-level and big-picture polishing. However, this is something I’d like to pursue professionally and so I’d like to pick up some freelance work while I’m working part-time for a little extra cash and experience.

I can help with:

  • Developmental editing (plot, pacing, character, structure)
  • Line editing (voice, clarity flow)
  • Copyediting/proofreading
  • General feedback and critique for short stories, novels (never done a novel but that could be a fun challenge!), or other creative writing
    • I will say, I’m not so good with poetry, but I’m not opposed to it either

  • I’m very gentle with my feedback — I’ve had my own work workshopped/edited too, and I know how sensitive that can be

I’m primarily focused on fiction and creative writing, but if you check out my portfolio (the link), you’ll see I’m open to other forms of art as well. I front a band and run a zine for local art in NYC, and I’m happy to talk through whatever you need.

Rate: $25/hour

NYC-based Zine Looking for Submissions

Hi everyone! I run a zine called Finger Food (here is a link to our Substack: https://substack.com/@fingerfoodzine ) - issues are seasonal and as I'm finishing up editing this upcoming Fall's issue, I'm realizing there's room for a few more pieces. We are open to art of all mediums, and since the zine is relatively new, there isn't necessarily a theme (other than Fall? If you even want to go with that). We are also happy to advertise anything you might want to in the zine, so keep that in mind. While we're open to all mediums/ideas/additions to the zine, we're mostly looking for NYC-based artists (or artists in the general area), since Finger Food's main purpose is connected local artists.

If you have anything to share, please send it to fingerfoodzine@gmail.com

Thank you!!

Drummer needed for Brooklyn-based alt/indie/riot grrrl band!!!

When I woke up yesterday morning, I had a drummer. Though we are devastated by this loss, we're ready to get back out there. Here are the deets:

We are a (name pending) all female/queer group in our mid-late twenties.

We're pretty new! We haven't started gigging yet, though we want to soon and we are all pretty committed so we need someone who's ready to lock in. I started this band because I have many unused songs written that I want to workshop and put out there, so we're looking for someone who's ready to take creative liberty and collaborate. I sometimes have an idea of what I want the drums to sound like, but I have no idea how to communicate that so we need someone who is patient with pointless miming and all that.

We're going for an alt/indie and garagey/punk/riot grrrl sound - a mix of it all (my main inspo is Mannequin Pussy, for reference). I don't have control of what I write, however, and everything comes out indie. Be prepared.

(That's a big part of why I'm looking to workshop my stuff)

We meet on Tuesday nights! We have a rehearsal space in Gowanus that we use (it's a little under $45/month each) and it is absolutely lovely. There's a backyard, all the equipment we need ofc, and a break room - much better deal than we were getting at the last place. We meet around 7/7:30 usually, and we can stay as late as we like. We often hang out for a while too after practice, sometimes we like to grab a drink together, and we hang out outside of practice sometimes as well, so expect some invitations to parties/concerts/hangouts here and there, and please don't be afraid to do the same. You aren't just getting a band, but three cool sexy friends as well.

Due to negative experiences with straight men, we'd prefer to keep the band female/queer, but aren't totally closed off - as long as you're respectful!

I think that's everything. I can send you a shitty recording of us playing while I'm getting over a cold if you'd like a rough idea of what we sound like - or you can just come in blindly. If you have any questions or are interested, please please reach out to louisa.zerbo on Instagram! I don't use reddit much, though I'll probably check here over the next few days.

Looking for local artists (of all mediums) for NYC-based zine!

Hi everyone! I run a zine called Finger Food with some friends and for our second issue we're looking to expand outside of our small group. We are taking submissions and ideas of all kinds until August 1st, and if you have any ideas/ways to help or want to be involved please reach out via email at fingerfoodzine@gmail.com, and check out our Substack @ fingerfoodzine (same username for TikTok and Instagram) -- it's been so much fun to put together and we'd love to collaborate with more people, so please reach out!

We especially need help with social media/graphic design and submissions, of course. But despite our lack there, our first issue came out great and we're hoping to get the next one out around September 21st.

NYC Band Looking For A Lead Guitarist

I (24F) recently started a band (all women in our 20s) and we are looking for a lead guitarist! Preferably someone in our age range,  female or queer but we’re open to everyone, and hoping to meet once a week right now. Since our members mostly work 9-5 jobs, we typically meet weekday evenings or on weekends, and recently have been meeting in the Lower East Side at Rivington Music Rehearsal Studios, which means we split the cost of the rental (typically about $15 each for two hours of practice). We are going for an indie/garagey riot grrrl mix — I have a lot of original music written; a mix of finished and very unfinished work, all of which is open to editing, and I’m looking for someone who would like to collaborate and take creative liberty in writing lead guitar solos, riffs, etc. We also just want to have fun together, so we’re looking for someone who’d like to hang out as well, maybe get drinks before or after practice. If you’re interested, please dm me at louisa.zerbo on Instagram (I don’t really use reddit) and we can chat!
