New to the Rep Game — Lessons I Learned Before My First Rep (Explorer 1)

I’m new to the rep game, but I’ve always been a watch guy. Watches have always been a passion for me. I first discovered r/RepTime from a Joe Rogan podcast talking about Rolex, and that sent me down the rabbit hole.

After that, I spent quite a bit of time going through the Intro Guide on the RepTime Wiki, learning what’s worth buying, understanding the mindset of wearing rep watches, and how QC works in r/RepTimeQC.

Last week, I finally pulled the trigger on my first rep, the Explorer 1, since it fits my real-life style pretty closely.

While researching, I noticed a lot of new members asking the same questions without reading the Wiki or doing basic research. So I just wanted to share a few things I’ve learned that might help other beginners:

  1. Read the Intro Guide first Seriously, this is the best resource you’ll get. Most beginner questions are already answered there.
  2. Stick with Trusted Dealers (TDs) Always contact TDs through their official channels (usually WhatsApp). Avoid random sellers.
  3. Price vs customer service Different TDs have different pricing. Often, better customer service = slightly higher price. Fast replies and good communication can be worth it.
  4. QC timing varies QC usually takes around ~2 weeks, but it can be longer depending on the model and demand. Always communicate with your TD, and don’t panic if it takes time.
  5. No rep is perfect Keep realistic expectations. There will always be small flaws.
  6. Use r/RepTimeQC for help If you're unsure during QC, post there and get feedback from the community.
  7. Join RWI forum It’s another great resource with tons of detailed info. Definitely worth making an account.
  8. Be careful with mods Modding can be fun, but don’t end up spending more than double the watch cost unless you really know what you're doing.
  9. Learn about servicing Check out r/RepTimeServices and do your research before sending your watch anywhere.
