If no one is getting into the taxis outside a tourist spot, there's a reason

Just a heads up for anyone planning to visit the Great Wall. We came down late afternoon and the exit area was packed with private cars and taxis trying to get passengers, but almost no tourists were getting in. Everyone was standing around on their phones trying to book a Didi. I should have taken that as a sign. Our trip package recommended taking the bus back to the city. We ignored that and tried to grab a Didi instead. App showed somewhere over 200 RMB which seemed fine, but nobody accepted for ages, just kept waiting. It was getting late so I went up to one of the waiting drivers and asked how much. He said 300 RMB. Not that far off from what the app was showing so we caved. Then he picked up two more Chinese passengers and squeezed them in. Five people packed in one car. So he's collecting fares from both groups for the same trip. At drop-off he also wanted 50 RMB for highway tolls, said it was split between the two groups so each pair pays 50. Maybe legit, but it felt dodgy.Looking back this guy probably made well over 600 RMB off a single ride doing this. Should have just taken the bus like the package recommended. If you see a bunch of drivers waiting but nobody getting in, don't be the one who gets in.

My 3-criteria framework for picking an ai avatar tool (tested across 5 platforms)

After digging a bit deeper into the AI video space, I’ve noticed people always ask “which tool is the best.” From my own experience, I mostly care about a few key things. The first is “realism and consistency,” especially when it goes beyond normal talking scenarios. Most tools look fine in basic conversation, but once you get into singing or emotional expression, the quality drops pretty quickly. The second is “iteration cost.” Some platforms are very beginner-friendly and you can get decent results in minutes. But others, while more controllable in theory, end up taking more time tweaking than actually creating if speed is your focus. The third thing that often gets overlooked but is really important is “customization.” A lot of tools can generate avatars, but not all of them let you create something truly unique or build a consistent style. This basically decides whether the output feels generic or something you can actually develop a visual identity around.Recently I started trying DomoAI. I wouldn’t call it a “studio-level” tool, but it can quickly produce usable results without too much setup, which I think is actually quite important. There are also more practical limitations, like pricing. Once you move from testing to real usage, things like resolution limits or cost per generation start to matter a lot.

Two pics my buddy sent me from his Avata 360

Noob question. Buddy of mine is on holiday and WhatsApped me two pics. Genuinely thought it was his mirrorless. Nope, Avata 360, reframed in DJI Fly after. The colors kinda caught me off guard, like that deep blue going into green where the shore is, shadows look clean too. Never gave a shit about drones but now I'm thinking about it. Probably gonna borrow his when he's back and mess around with it before I commit to anything.
