Preschool nap fiasco
My child goes to a public school preschool program (VPK) in Tennessee. It goes from 7:45-1:45. They have a mandatory 30 minute “rest time”. This is not a time where they can play quietly. They have to lay down. I’m very upset because the teacher makes them lay directly on the floor. They are allowed to lay on the regular classroom rug, but they do not have anything like a mat or cot. She said they also cannot bring a blanket. They are allowed a small pillow. My son says he’s uncomfortable and cold during this time. I know it’s not a long time, but I’m sure it seems long to a 4 year old who is cold and laying on the floor. This seems insane to me, but am I the crazy one? I also think this would be illegal! I feel like this would be illegal at a state funded daycare program so I don’t know how this would be any different. Is this normal? Should I let it go? Is it perfectly legal? Help!
