Cheat sheet for 2nd edition rules from White Dwarf and some old catalogues
When I was trying to work out if the Tech Guard can have commissars a while back (they can, there's one in a tech guard army in the battle report in WD188), I did a deep dive into all the rules for 2nd edition published in White Dwarf and made a cheat sheet.
Figured some of you might find a use for them. Don't think you can post files here, so I've stuck a google drive link in. (Mods, let me know if that's not allowed) The HMTL version is designed for printing out in landscape on A4. Used AI to tidy up my spreadsheet into something more useable for gaming, but the interpretations are my own.
There's also some scans of old US epic catalogues in there too. Scanned them for the late, great Richard "Orclord" Hales, but sadly he never had chance to add them to the Stuff of Legends, so would be nice if someone can find a use for them. The 1996 one has the limited release Eldar Exodites in it...

EDIT: Whilst I'm thinking about it, I've added the PDF extracts from the White Dwarf issues I got the rules from so you can check my working, based on Zedmeister's unbelievably helpful website https://zedmeister.co.uk/zms.php?page=7
2nd edition space marine tactics
Played my first game of second (Titan legions) edition with the Second Company last night, 1750 points and got absolutely hammered by some damn space wolves! Wasn’t even close, 40-12 in the end.
I normally play Squat, Guard or nids, so I’m used to slow moving god-like firepower or psychic mind bullets to win the day. It was a small game so ended up quite thinly spread and got crunched in detail by those massive grey hunter detachments from the great company.
Veteran 2nd edition Chapter Masters, how am I supposed to use marines properly?
More Space Sharpe. Sorry.
Added a couple more to the Space Sharpe troops, an extra officer, a heavy trooper and a trooper armed with a meltagun made my Magos Nock of Riza.

Space Sharpe Epic Guard
Managed to get the officer and the standard bearer modelled up and test printed this evening. Now that I've got Major Lennox guarding the Emperor's colours with his life, I think I'll need a Simmerson, as you can't squander the lives of shako wearing guardsmen without incompetent leadership!
Not sure when I'll get round to that though, got a heavy trooper and an alternative officer/commissar half done, but could be a while before I get time to finish them, so I've stuck these three up of Cults3D if anyone wants to help themselves in the meantime.

Space Sharpe Epic Guard army project
Because I am a child of the mid 90s hitting a midlife crisis, I've started a small project to make a small Sharpe themed small guard army for second edition. Needed a guardsman with a shako and really didn't fancy scratch building hundreds of 6mm guardsmen. This is my first attempt, wondering if they need the knapsack or would that be just adding extra work? Would you even notice at this scale?
Ratling snipers will be green jackets, obviously.
Also not sure what to do for the commissars and officers yet. Going for as close to the originals, but still a napoleonic feel. Anyone got any ideas for the commissars particularly? Provosts just look like officers wearing blue uniforms, and that feels like a bit of a cop out. Any suggestions?
Will dump the files on Cults3D when I'm finished, or more likely when I run out of steam!
Epic terrain models
As promised a couple of weeks ago, I said I'd share the models when I'd finished tinkering with the files. Here's a link to anyone who wants them, would be interested in hearing how people get on with them. Cheap as free, so don't expect too much, but it was a valuable learning experience. I'd recommend anyone who wants to get into 3D modelling for epic to try a terrain project first and nail down the basics. Has been really useful for me.
Back to work after 3 month on leave
Been a fairly productive quarter of a year sitting in my underpants painting miniature miniatures. Got a lot more confident with tiny free hand painting. Also got a lot better at designing and printed a lot of scenery too. Back to the coal face on Monday…
How can I make my boom boxes look less bland?
Was supposed to be painting my winter camo infantry this weekend, but ended up accidentally starting a new guard army instead. As you do. The camo pattern looks decent on the Leman Russ, but the vindicators look a bit meh. It's the big open panel on the back, but I don't know what to do with them. I'm going british army with this lot to go against my mate's suspiciously prussian looking army he's painting. Any ideas I can steal?
Getting closer with squat buildings…
Few more prototypes, the squarer building are looking too imperial, or French which as a Brit horrified me. Maybe techno-Norse is the right direction? Might get a bit space wolfy.
Has anyone seen any references they think might help? Votann is too cyberpunk for my taste, and the lack of reference images is killing me!
Trying to design squat buildings again…
Trying to find a design language for squat architecture, and have ruined versions of all the buildings, being as collapsing a house on a unit of space wolves is very funny.
Would appreciate and feedback and suggestions, the community here is always great for helping me improve things I’m working on!
I come seeking the wisdom of the Ancients. Can 2nd Edition Tech Guard have commissars?
We're getting back into 2nd ed (well, 2.5 ed, Titan Legions) and we can't work out if Tech Guard can have commissars.
I say, they're basically mechanised imperial guard, with all of the command structure required, so I think commissars are needed to mitigate some of the chain of command risk.
My mate says no, whilst gleefully hunting down my poorly positioned command units.
Oh wise and grey bearded Ancients, who were there in the age of legends (1994), can you settle our dispute?
Why has my snow mat suddenly gone yellow?
In b4 yellow snow jokes.
This snow flock is stuck on a rubber mat, it's been rolled up for a couple of months, made it about a year ago. The only bits that are going yellow seem to have been exposed to the air, but not to light as it's been in a cupboard out of sunlight. The flock in the yellowed area seems really brittle compared to the rest too.
Used basing glue to stick woodland scenic soft flake snow, Allgame Terrain Super Seal to fix it, then it's had a few layers of sealant with flock sprinkled on to fix holes due to FAR TOO MUCH flock at one end, so I don't think it's the glue or the sealant, as the rest of the mat would be yellowing in that case.
Would be very interested in hearing if anyone else has come up against this, or have any idea what has caused it so I can avoid it happening again?
Had another go at making some squat terrain, took u/statictyrant's advice to ease off on the battlements a bit and add a few small windows to break up the frontage a bit. Tried to put a ramp for the bikers on the side, but it kept wrecking my mesh for some reason, so made the executive decision to bin that off for this model. I'll make an explicitly guild biker hall at some point.
Really struggled to capture the look for the old squats, so pinched some design ideas from the leviathan and colossus models, flared out the footings, then made a big squat logo and whacked that on the front instead. Also had a bash at some mechanicus terrain too.
Any advice or feedback on the models, or advice on not nadgering my meshes in blender, would be gratefully received!
EDIT: I've dumped the files on cults3d if anyone wants them along with a load of other bits I've been tinkering with. Files print but they're not optimised, so if you do go for it, you've been warned! https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/game/epic-terrain
